I got a 85 VF500f a couple years ago, and finally got it running and on the road recently, my problem is the oil cap seems to have been replaced by a previous owner with one without a dipstick attached.

Could someone measure theirs from the flange where it seals to the case to the full level so I can confirm I've got the right level of oil in it after my oil change?

    Dip stick

You may want to look at the bottom of cap and see if the dip stick broke off and is in the engine .

Just FYI there is a filler cap towards the front of that case and the dipstick is a screw in one towards the back of the case and a bit lower.

about 45 mins after posting the initial post I discovered what serjohn later replied, there's both a dipstick hole and a filler hole
