They are leaking badly (onto the front brakes!) and I need to replace. I figured I would save some dough and do it myself... but the bike does not have a center stand, and I need to buy a stand for this job. or... do i? and if i do, any suggestions?

    NO stand no problem

YOU need a sturdy wall or shelves or a tree to lean the bike very slightly to the right side and a strap-around the frame to secure it, then a sissors jack, some blocks of wood.........

First use blocks in front and back of front wheel to prevent possible movement. Next place jack and wood under the mounting points on frame where centerstand would bolt. Lift rear wheel about 3-4". Then place supports under center of engine as high as possible. Next, let the jack down slightly, and THE FRONT END WILL LIFT !! You're UP at both ends !!

Without stands, i've use this method often with no problems.

Best to do heavy torquing ( front or rear wheel axle ) while bike is still on sidestand.

Babbs......forgot to mention that it's best to loosen fork caps (1/2 turn) while they're still on the bike
