Just bought a 99 vfr. i am removing all the body work to clean my new baby up. new chain/sprockets,tires and all fluids.

so itook off my tail section and found a lockable compartment. thia apears to be some aftermarket piece made just for this bike. the center section of the stock rear fender is cut out to fit it. the compartment is made of vacum formed plastic and hinged at the front. it has a lock hiden behind the plate and opens toward the rear. large enough to hold several large sets of gloves and more. it appears to be well designed
anybody seen this before? who made it? can i get a new lock?

Sounds interesting. Post some close-up photos. What seat do you have?

i will try and post some pics of it tonight. it was designed for this bike. its molded around and attaches too the round cross bar in the front. at the rear it bolts up to the fender mounting tabs. and it has a molded in area for the ecu. it is not some universal fits anything pos. and its not homemade. enless you have vacum forming equpment in your garage.

When I saw the topic, I thought this was going to be a post about Gerbils.

Look anything like this? Link: Honda VFR 800

This was the "Tailocker". No longer available and I don't think the company is around anymore.

as far as locks go - I'm sure it's an over the counter replacement. Manufacturers of that kind of stuff don't make locks and keys, they buy them from a supplier. If you can get your box open without damaging it, you can remove the old lock and match it up with another that mounts the same. The only difference might be the swing lever that "locks" the cover and box may have to be removed from the old lock assembly and installed on the replacement.

Man I'd buy one of those if they were still available. There was a co that made a kit for my CBR F2 but I've seen nothing for a VFR.
