I was on my way home yesterday and it died when I pulled up to a stop sign. It would not restart. When I turn on the key everything is normal; you can hear the fuel pump wind up and all the lights and guages come on. Hit the starter and it cranks but doesn't fire. I thought maybe the PC III had gone out so I took it out and put all the connectors back to stock but there was no change. I have a service manual and am going to start tearing into it this weekend.

Are there any known electrical issues that could cause this?

    Sorry to hear about that.

I don't ride the 6th gen, but I recall some threads here about electrical recalls? Try searching and see what years it was applicable too. Whether you got the bike new or used, the dealer would/should/could perform this, and would have a record of it.

Good luck in getting it sorted out.

check fuses....firstly, then check your kill switch make sure it is functioning correctly... you can check to make sure you are getting a spark as well but I doubt it is your spark plugs...whats the chance on all 4 coils going out at the same exact time?

    WVFR:

First of all, sorry to hear your having an "adventure"; hope you get it resolved quickly.

I wonder if the side stand interlock is somehow malfunctioning. As you probably know, the engine will not run if the transmission is in gear with the side stand is down. You've probably already tried this but definitely try starting the bike with the tranny in neutral and the side stand up. If it starts then but dies when you put it into gear then it is the switch for the side stand interlock.

    Two side notes:

    1. Are you sure your bike is in '06? I thought the '06s were all either red or RWB. I thought Honda had the whites out in '05. Doesn't make any difference really; it looks great in white.

    2. Although I live in Connecticut, as I type this I'm just up the road from you in Keizer visiting my family. I like the Salem summer weather a heck of a lot better than what we're having in the East right now.

Best of luck in getting it fixed quickly so you don't miss too much of this lovely riding weather!

Ok.........06 the wiring hardness has been correct by Honda.
Check the kill switch on the side stand and the one on your right handle bar. Need to clean them real good. It happen to me couple time. It work fine after I clean the switchs.

Whoops! Cancel that comment. I guess my brain's timing chain jumped a tooth.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to this - thanks for the sugestions.

Yes the bike is an '06. I checked the kill switch and side stand switches and they are functioning properly. I grabbed my manual and found the section to pull the codes from the ECU. One problem though - I can't find the two wire connector? I removed everything on the front and can't find it. The picture in the manual looks like the connector is by the fuse box. All I can find there is a four wire red connector and the wire colors don't match the wiring schematics. Does anyone know where the %$^%& connector is located?

I forgot to say: I cannot hear the fuel pump whine when I turn on the key. I thought I could when I was trying to get it started before but I guess with all the traffic noise I was hearing things.

The fuel pump runs off of the engine kill switch. If the kill switch is off, the pump won't run when you turn the key to the ON position. You should hear the pump come on when the key is on and you turn the engine kill switch to the RUN position.

    Good luck!

    I found the problem:

So much for using the manual to troubleshoot. The fuse had been hot but didn't blow. The small connector is welded together. I replaced it all and the bike fired right up. Thanks for all your help and sugestions.

Outstanding! Glad you got it fixed. I've never seen that failure mode before.

    Ride safe; have fun.

Check the 30Amp fuse on the battery wiring harness. I have an 06 'ceptor and it ahs done the same thing twice in the last month. Wiring is getting extremely hot and frying the fuse.

Where is that connector located? Can you tell what caused the failure? And thanks for the follow-up!

Yes - please share what that connects to. It wouldn't hurt to check in to the VFRness. Mite not correct this issue, but can avoid other similar ones in the charging system. Damned electrical gremlins . . .

    Guys,

I'm not an electrical genius, so I have a question on this problem.

Is this due to the wires being too small?

    Size does matter !
