On my way home last night, pulling the clutch handle wouldn't disengage the clutch anymore. Figured, "There goes the master/slave cylinder." Got up this morning, looked up rebuild kits on ebay, then headed down to check out the prob.

Pulled the cap off the clutch reservoir and it looked like it was packed with baby crap! (I have 2 boys, I know what it looks like). I've done a lot of brakes and have never seen anything like it. The fluid had congealed to the point it would no longer function. Took two hours and a can of spray brake cleaner to flush it out and bleed the system with Valvoline synthetic. Works like a charm now.

Just finished replacing the brake lines fore and aft with SS, the fluid in them looked fine.

Have you guys ever seen this before? I mean this stuff was nasty!

Yeah, same thing, only greenish/brown. Sorry for no pics, but if you can visualize a cup of old green pea soup, you got it...

Wowie Kazowie! Glad you got it fixed. Do you know how long the old fluid had been in there?

    Ride safe, have fun.

I'm guessing since it left Japan 14 years ago... The window on the reservoir has fogged thru, not unusual, so I had no idea what was going on inside. Flushed the brakes again this morning, probably not for the last time, the fluid had turned greenish/brown. Took the slave cylinder off for inspection 1st, no rust/deterioration, cleaned it up and re-installed.

Might recommend that a quick look under the reservoir cap would be a good idea as part of your annual maintenance. I,m pretty anal about the brakes, the clutch system kinda fell thru the cracks on me.
