I had originally wrote this for Cycle World Mag to see if I could get some advise as to what might be my problem - so instead of rewriting it I thought I would post here - anyone experiencing the same issues please advise what you have done to fix the problem - many thanks. I’m seeing RED! The history: I have a beautiful RED 2005 VFR 800 A (Canadian - ABS) I purchased it in 08- 49,000Km and had all service work required done including the Valves. There was a recall to replace the electrical harness put unfortunately the wrong one was initially installed more RED $$$ prior to finally getting the proper one in place. This year I also replaced a burned out stator $1,400 ouch seeing more RED $$$. Here’s why I’m really seeing RED - after the bike warms up the throttle responds as if the cable has been lengthened by a ½”. I.e. when cold the hand grip movement required to get the bike rolling is minimal and smooth – when warm the grip needs to be turned about ¼-1/2” before anything happens and requires an aggressive pull which makes for abrupt takeoffs or conversely trying to apply what I would consider proper twist it would stall - more RED - face of embarrassment!. 5 weeks ago it stalled on me while making a 90 deg turn from a dead stop, down I went like a stone - broke my foot OOUCH again- more RED this time added to the color of embarrassment you can add blood and $$$. I had a well seasoned rider friend take it out and he stalled it, first stop. He says there is definitely something up but just live with it. Please help, the only RED I want to see is the Honda Racing RED that’s on an otherwise fantastic. motorcycle!
wow that sucks I have an 02 stock w/ none of the recalls done and so far no problems at all in 20,000 miles. throttle cables issue seems strange, I had a ton of play in mine and adjusted it from the top ( throttle ) and the next day it would loosen back up, so I lifted the tank and adjusted the cable at the throttle bodies - no more problems at all since. I have had much better throttle response since I opened up the airbox, removed pair valves ( capped w/ aluminum 1/8" plates I made myself )and emissions crap off the bike. one thing maybe if someone had put heli bars on it and did not run the cables the correct way? or poss put the stock ones back on and left the cables routed for the heli bars? might want to ck the cable route w/ the manual. but if you adjust it don't waste your time doing it at the throttle, do all adjustments at the throttle body.
CAble Adjustments Thanks for the feedback - but my description regarding the cables was more to imply how it felt - In fact the cable doesn't go slack - it just acts in terms of throttle wrist control that I need (when warm) to twist the throttle before I get the desired response and when it does kick in it revs about 300+ RPM more than it should - like a flat spot develops when warm but it happens right at the first part of throttle twist - thanks again . .
remove pair valve and emissions canister, and do the 02 delete and that will go away. there are a few how to's on the 02 delete that lists the resistors you need
