I just put my tank back on after finishing the carbs. I flushed with clr etc and it seemed fine though it did have some surface rust. I was wrong. Drove for about 10 miles and it started to "chug" a bit on acceleration. Check the fuel filter and it was full of rust flake...as was the fuel filter. I just finished the tank cleanout.......it is really really clean now. The bike ran fine at idle for 15 min on a bottle....... Just rode it for several miles and it is losing idle again! Feels sluggish as well. Checked the fuel filter and it is fine (installed a temp clear model). QUESTION Finally!!! : Does this sound like I have that debris/rustflake in the jets? Do I need to tear it down again to know for sure....(I think I know the answer..) :frown:
I doubt the jets. Anything small enough to get thru the filter will wash thru the jets. Now the screens on the back side of needle seat might start to plug.
Your tank needs coating to seal it and prevent future deterioration of the inside surface. I use the "fuel tank sealer" from Plating Kits Electroplating Kits Aluminum Anodizing Kits Powder Coating Systems Metal Polishing And Buffing Supplies - Caswell Inc. runs about $40 and easy to use.
