Farm to Market 170

I just finished a 2500+mile roadtrip (by car unfortunately) around Texas.

Does anyone ride the Farm to Market 170 from Presidio through Big Bend?

It was a great road, and other than the Javelinas and the fact that I was in a Rental car, I imagine it would be great fun on a bike!

Anyone?

 

No one. Hmmmm.....too bad. Fun little road.

I assume cause it's too hot in the summer and too prone to flooding in the Winter

 

I have done it in my Buell XB12S a few years ago. It was awesome. We stopped in some tourist town called Lajitas, we were the only ones there but they had a full staff there in this makeshift old western town. I stayed in Big bend national park at the hotel in the park. It was August, so it was cheap and very hot. The staff in the hotel said fall and spring is a madhouse. I believe we paid $99 a night, but during the said seasons, it can be $200+. Also go check out Terlingua ghost town, so cool!!!!!!!!!!

 

I have never been down that way. It's a long trip from here but, except for the Javelinas, it sounds like fun. Hitting one of those pigs could ruin your day.

 

usually i stay in Alpine, go west on 90 to Marfa, go south to presidio then east along river road(170) to study butte then north back to Alpine. thats one day. the next day north to FortDavis and the observatory on 118 then west on 166 for the loop back to Fort Davis then back to Alpine.
then ride it all the other way or spend the day in the park. it really is wide open spaces and long distances. two words of advice DO NOT PASS UP A GAS STATION and carry water.
