Hey guys, just brought home my first VFR today. Got a 2005 with the complete 3 piece luggage bags and a Corbin seat. Bike is in great condition and besides the Corbin seat, it's all stock. Just wanted to show the bike and also ask for the "hot list" on the upgrades that people are doing...kind of the "must dos". Looking for the cheap ones for now since I just bought the bike, I'm a little short on the play funds :) I do want to do a fender eliminator so if anyone has any recommendations on those that would be great. Also wondering about a different windshield that may divert the wind a bit better than the stock one...I ride a lot in the winter and the less wind hitting me the better.

The hard cases look great. One of my favorite cold weather riding mods is my oxford heated grips. twistedthrottle.com

    Welcome

6th gen bikes are typically upgraded or modded such as:

    Pair valve disable

    Flapper removal

Evap canister removal (makes changing oil much easier)

And lots of guys buy power commanders (fuel computers) for them as well (I'm happy with the stock PC)

Yep...a 1971 Roadrunner with a 440....not quite as good of gas mileage as the VFR :)

I'll help you with a "rear luggage eliminator" by buying the bags and mount from you if you want to lighten it up! Otherwise, great looking bike. I got the Sergeant seat, the Power Commander and a Puig Windscreen. Altogether, I couldn't be happier...

thanks for the "rear luggage eliminator" offer....but that was one of the things that really got me wanting this bike, great for trips. I have seen some on ebay going for about $1000 for the saddlebags minus the trunk...they're expensive!!! How do you like your Puig windscreen? I'm 6'1" and the stocker hits me right in the chest & face....looking for one with a bit more diversion :)

Well, I figured I would give it a shot...the puig is awesome. At REALLY high speeds there is a little buffeting but way less than stock. I'm 6'4" too so it's probably even better for someone of your height. With a tuck, there is no wind at all...it's fantastic.

Welcome to the forum and very nice bike. For an 05 - and before you add any strong pulling electronics like grips or anything - I'd reccomend upgrading your harness with a VFRness from Wiremybike.com (Tightwad is on the forums)

If you are looking for a screen I've heard great things about the Puig, I have a Zero Gravity, which I love but I've had a lot of problems with (customer service and product reliability)
If you want to drop any weight, get rid of the stock exhaust and replace it with something like a Two Brothers - expensive but when you hear the VFR unleashed from the stock cans, you can't help but smile and admire!

Aside from all the other farkles like power lets and GPS and such, I'm sure you will find plenty of stuff to do to the bike! Hope you enjoy it!

Kind of bummed...wanted to do a fender eliminator kit but the brackets for my luggage tie onto the stock fender and bracket. Anyone have luggage kits with an eliminator that can post some pics and brands that may still allow me to use the luggage?

Can't be done. Just chop your under tail plastic down to where the plate mount attaches to the bracket, & leave the metal plate for the bag mounts on there. That way you can throw the bags back on in 20 min or so if you need them for a short notice jaunt. ALSO- dump the rear fender and bracket that mounts to the SSSA- looks better, and makes cleaning and maintenance easier.

Look above my rear wheel: see the blue tupperware just above the tire?

    Now look here:

There are two brackets that mount that thing to the sssa. You're gonna need a small allen (3mm IIRC) and an 8mm socket.
