Hi, I'm new to this site and not found my way round yet so if this has been asked already, apologies in advance. I have a 1999 vfr by the way. I'm getting plenty of power from the stator wires and when I rev the engine the power (AC voltage) increases as it should. The problem is, I'm getting no power at all from the RR. I've even connected it directly to the battery but is still not putting aa charge through the battery. I have no prob getting and replacing it with another. Probably an R1 lump but I'd rather someone with more experience tell me its the RR for sure before I digg my wallet out. Thanks for any advice in advance guys/girls.

What kind of readings/volts you getting?
So when you measure the voltage across the battery at idle and 5K RPM's (with the RR hooked up, etc.) you are getting nothing? If you verified your stator output is correct and any of the legs are not shorted etc., than yes, you definitely have a RR issue. One other thing to check is the connectors from the stator and the power side going to the RR....make sure neither one is melted, etc.
If the plug on top of the starter relay is metled/burned, that can also cause non-charging.........but it's usually the r/r !
Not a voltage increase at all at idle and revving to 5000 From each stator wire I'm getting 1.2 ohms. My voltmeter is showing its +0.8 when I short the + and - of the unit so in actual fact the true readings are more like 0.4 ohms on each wire which is fine. With the engine running I'm getting a healthy AC current on each stator wire. I have even connected the RR directly to the battery to eliminate any wiring issues but it still shows nothing. Their are a few 5pw RR's on Ebay and I'm tempted to go for one of them as its an easy swap. Are there any other RR's I could use apart from a late R1 as I'm just trying to keep options open.
There are always options. The Rick's R/R available at Wire My Bike is a direct replacement. It should bolt right on, no cutting or drilling. However, I'll suggest/recommend that if you order from there, spend the additional $45 USD and get the VFRness.
Sounds like the R/R ... I just installed a Mosfet from Roadstercycles.com..There is a test for the r/r from pin to pin and mine had burned out inside and i could actually get a continuity positive from the pin to the back of the r/r meaning it was grounding itself to the frame and would actually work when hanging off the bike..just for kicks give the a try..hope it helps you a bit.
Well I've just replaced the rectifier with a used 2006 R1 unit. It seems to be reading a tad high at idle, should I be concerned? Idle with a cold engine I'd reading about 14.3 with lights on and revving it up to a few thousand takes it up to about 14.5 Please someone tell me is ok lol Thanks
At warm engine idle you should be back down in the 13's. But for cold idle and higher RPMs, 14 something is fine as CRFan said.
