RIDING THE DEVIL'S ROPE THROUGH ARIZONA APRIL 14-15 2013. LEAVING PHOENIX AT 0400 FOR EAGAR AZ ETA 1000 LOCAL. Anyone from N.M. or AZ want to meet in Eagar, or ride from Phx? Coronad Trail Hwy 191 in Eastern Arizona, also known as the Devil's Rope is 123 miles of scenic byway with more than 400 switchbacks! One of the least traveled US highways, it is a riders dream! (So I have heard.) This will be my first long distance ride on my VFR and I plan on covering about 800 miles from Saturday night when I leave work until Tuesday morning when I return to work. Hopefully I will see someone else out on the road. PM me if you want to meet and ride.

Riding out of Prescott there is a sweet road of twisties that takes you into the desert where I run through Mesa and off to Safford, then Morenci to start the epic ride up the Devil's Rope aka Coronado Trail. At the end of the ride I drop off of another sweet road which takes you over Mingus Mountain. Now Mingus mountain run and White Spars are both GREAT rides, but after riding the Coronado Trail they both seem lacking somehow. The Rope needs to be ridden at least twice in my opinion. You need once to just watch the road and enjoy the roller coaster that is America's Least Traveled and curviest US Highway, and a second time to TRY to take in all of the breath taking scenery! Enjoy the limited pics!

As you approach the gates to the Devil's Highway there is a wide open run where you can open her up to 130 and just criuse

After riding about 30 miles of beautiful hairpin turns as you switchback up the mountain you are rewarded with beautiful scenery, and a wide open road with not another soul in sight!

Unforunately I found myself staying on the throttle and off of the camera. So, as I said earlier, this ride should be done in two phases. Ride it once for the thrill, and then back down it for the scenery!

Troutkiller, you have a 400 mile stretch of UNINTERUPTED road rich in history right in your back yard! The Natchez Trace was absolutely beautiful! In the Fall it is almost too beautiful for words. Non-stop for 400 miles? Who can beat that?
    Still...I understand your jealousy:cool:

The Trace is just incredible in the Fall! I will likely ride it this Fall as well. I am from Knoxville Tenn so it would be a good excuse to visit family. You wont regret that ride for sure!
