7th Generation needs to be re-labelled as the 1st generation 1200.

    2014 VF800 is the 7th generation.

    Am I correct?

    Which would you prefer, 2013 VFR1200F or 2014 VFR800F?

I have yet to make up my mind :distress:

Wonderful to have the choice tho.

Getting other clothes doesn't make the 800 a new gen for me. I think it's still 6th and the 1200 7th is completely ok.

I'd call it a new gen. It's a different sub frame and all new electronics besides the new plastic. Honda would undoubtedly have a new service manual for this model.

Designating a bike with a 1st or 6th Generation was news to me when I joined the forum. Although my previous bike was an F3, but was also known as CBR600FW (98) while the previous year was an FV, but exactly the same bike. My Haynes has the model listing for the 6th gen as 9/A9 (2009) Starting in 2002 with 2/A2.
I think that a lot of people ( myself included) assumed that the VFR800 was history when they came out with the 1200, I'm just happy that the VFR 800 is still with us & seeing that the the new model comes with a few juicy bits tacked on, it deserves 7th gen tag, honestly though, couldn't give a rats arse about that, it's still a 2014 VFR800.

There's alotta buzz going on about this, really in the end I dont care but since the long history of the VFR comes from a middleweight displacement at 750/700 and 800(781) and all the gens are named(designated) from that line, the 1200 (now) as any gen seems out of place. So, I'm at the new 800 is a 7th gen as the true evolution of the VFR roots and the 1200 is just a 1200 or 1st gen if you gotta go there.

    Its all silly shit anyhoo------

-------Most seem to wanna say its an 8th gen.

    Beers for all. :eagerness:

Who started this generation stuff anyway? What it suggests is that on the cosmically famous mach 1 91 as a benchmark, all three bikes (90-93) are exactly the same with no changes. Then we got your tranny thing with the 1200's and HD Knuckleheads and Fat Boys.

Not even remotely a vfr. Do a 1000 mile weekend to MOTORCYCLE DAYS at Mid-Ohio, commute to work all week, and a track day. That's a VFR

I do commute every day with my 1200 VFR. Rode it to a track day at Road America . I enjoyed every minute of the track day on my 1200 VFR. BTW, I bought a brand new 91 VFR back in the day....the 1200 IS indeed a VFR. If i was going on a 4000 mile week vacation, that included a track day. I'd take the 1200 EVERY time over my 91.

    Not even remotely a VFR...:der:

At the risk of being blasted, it seems a US thing?

Then ya got dudes naming their bikes after old girlfriends, pets, featured characters in Godzilla movies ect.

Once somebody cops to the generational thing, maybe they can figure out the HD numbering system. Good luck with that one.

The Honda Civic forum has "generations" and so does the Dodge Ram Diesel forum. Even the Glock handguns are referred to by what generation.

Those and probably more. My long gone Civic wagon probably didn't know it was so generational. It was a 1976. This I think was later than the "begats" who are even earlier than The Beat Generation and Generation X.
