Bought a 2002 at the end of the riding season last year. Looking for advice on everything I should do for maintenance.

These are definite things I plan on doing:
    - Oil change.
    - Spark plugs.
    - Coolant change.

Things to check, but have to research how:
    - Brake fluid.
    - Cables.
    - Brake pads & rotors.
    - Chain.
    - Sprockets

I would say buy a haynes manuel, then you can be sure you get everything done when it should be.

Even wearing his biker jacket at the end of the video talking fast and neurotically about a neurotic sketch that was inspired by his neurosis for list making.

Skip the haynes manual and the chilton book. They are useless. Download the 2002-2009 shop manual (its on here somewhere) then find the honda common service book. These are the booms the honda mechnics use to fix your bike. Why shouldnt you use it too?

As for basic maintenance. . . . Do you know what has been done before you got it?
Check/change: oil, brake fluid (look in 6th gen forum for linked brake bleeding), clutch fluid (just brake fluid), coolant, fork oil, tires, sprockets, chain, etc.

The list can go on and on and on. Basically check everything and change what you cant check. This is oils, fluids and filters. If you take it to get a full go through by a shop it would include all kinds of things that we forget to tell you. If your not sure and dont have the skills, take it to a shop and ask what it would cost for a complete go through and weigh your options. If your against the shop mech then get the books and troll the forum.

I found the manual on the other VFR forum. I'll take a look through it.

Also get the common service book as the manual refers to it for some procedures.
