Maybe you could add some of those lowrider hydraulics too and do wheelies and stoppies whilst standing still. Or, maybe somebody hauled some dirt in from somewhere and built a hill in Houston for hillclimbers.

Some dudes that have done this to their bikes have really fatass girlfriends and need the extra wheelbase riding two up.

If you got enuff money to spend on trendy ghetto mods that all add up to a lesser bike than what you started with, just go ahead, Bunky. None of that junk is an improvement, just bling.

Most of us here believe in preserving these rare bikes as original as possible, not cramming on trendy mods that are illogical and may even degrade handling capabilities. Some ultra-conservatives around here that disdain and decry all but very discreet mods. Sorry, me at least. I mean there're loads of mass-produced bikes in abundant numbers for modding, so no VFR's please, kids !

I say do what you want with your bike, it's yours and nobody else's. I took my very nice 4th gen and fightered it out. I love it more now than it was stock.

Do you still have the fairing panels and rear cowls? Might they be for sale?

Can you ride your streetfighter like that with no plate, lights and exhaust? As wet as it gets where I live, I'd hang a mudflap from the seat just to keep stuff off my jacket.

I am more and more leaning toward your idea. Why stop at just three inches or so when you could turn the bike into a really useable vehicle?

BB, I sold my left mid fairing. Still have the others. I'm adding a headlight, tail light, and bar end mirrors. That was my winter project, and I stay out of the puddles.

I three hundred percent agree with the squirrel. These are beautiful bikes to some of us as they were produced. They are becoming harder & harder to find, so to cut one up is a shame.
You are ore then welcome to do what you will with your own bikes but truly there are new bikes that this mod could be done to.
SELL IT DON'T CUT IT UP!!!!

    Somebody might need your plastic.

I thought there for a moment that maybe you had a really big driveway or they had relaxed the equipment requirements there in Michigan. ;)

If ya change your mind and need a mudflap, I bet there are some for Harleys that might fit.

What you might want to do since you have a more up to date set of forks and a JD modified shock, check with Jamie about what the intended wheelbase extension and tire size changes to insure that in fact the bike will handle better. IMO since you have the mechanical skills and fabrication capabilities, to do what you intend, you might want to think about coming up with something more useful for all bikes...

End result? No real harm done.

    JasnWW,

Did you ever get your swing arm fixed after the sprocket studs backed out? If you didn't, adding an extension to a compromised swing arm could be a HUGE mistake. Your going to be adding stress to an already compromised part.

    +1 on what Arn said.
I would be very careful about welding onto the aluminum on the swingarm in the way you will to extend it- as that can greatly weaken the aluminum where you weld at.

We need to get over the idea that "It's your bike, do whatever you want to it." It may be your dog, but abuse (crude mods) is wrong.

If you don't realize how ugly and disproportional your modded bike looks, like a rolling wreck, there's not much we can do to convince you. Lack of esthetic appreciation is a serious offense.

I agree. Not as bad as a pair of those now famous assless/crotchless chaps.

There were thousands of vfr's made. What's the difference in cutting up a vfr or a cbr? Maybe I don't wanna be cookie cutter like all you squares, I'm different and I don't care.

IMO those chaps are cut up way too much as it is. Maybe those HD mudflaps could be used on them? Just a thought.

Ok, you do realize you're not being different right? By hacking up your VFR into a pile of dog$&^! in the quest of individuality you are just falling in with all the squids who did the same to their street bikes. But at least some of them did it cause their plastic was rashed up. So... there's nothing original about your VFR, at all.

Just like the folks who are "creative" with Cafe racers. When there's cafe racers all over the place, it isn't an original idea anymore.

Your VFR looks like it was in the process of being stripped for parts at a chop shop when the crooks were interuppted by a police raid.\

But back on topic, OP's idea of swapping in a new wheel for more modern rubber isn't a bad idea (not many choices for that 18" rim) however I think the approach is wrong. You should be looking at an entirely new swingarm. Maybe off a cbr or later VFR. Some slight machining or spacers at the pivot end would be much safer than hacking off and welding stuff on the ends of an existing one.
