So the VFR is being replaced (V-Strom) tomorrow. It's got 118K miles and a salvage title; what do ya'll think I should do with it? Last option would be to pull it apart and shove it in plastic bags under the house and pull it out in 20 years.......

Sell it, at a good price, for someone who really wants to ride. There are lots of people who would ride that bike (unless it's total crap and in that case sell the plastics for a profit.)

Part it out. You'll put a little money in your pocket and you'll help others who need the parts to re-build their own bikes. A high mileage bike like that with a salvage title won't get you much sold as a complete unit. Another option would be to find a similar wrecked non-salvage bike for cheap and use your parts to re-build it and sell it at a profit.

The rashed plastic is the reason for the salvage title, what parts would sell? What would "a good price" be? $500? $1,000? It's still a strong runner, just had an oil analysis done with the last oil change and there' no appreciable wear, but it's going to need tires, clutch and chain/sprocket.

Even if the plastic is rashed it should still sell as long as it is not broken or cracked completely. You can also sell the wheels, exhaust, forks, headers, calipers, windscreen, mirrors, radiator, oil cooler, ecu, clip-ons, rearsets, pegs, swingarm, turn signals, headlight assembly, brake and clutch levers, brake and clutch master cylinders, etc. Parting it out is a pain in the arse especially if you don't have extra shop/garage space and it will also take time so the easiest route will probably sell whole. Considering the current shape of the bodywork I think $1000 firm would be a fair price but it's hard to say without seeing it. Do you have any pics?

Sorry it took so long to get back to this, smashed my phone (who knew that nobody would have an actual camera anymore; and just as an aside, the new HTC M8 is a sweet phone:biggrin-new:)

The front cowl is the worst; both turn signals were punched through. There's rash on each side of the fairing from a low speed low side, and a bump from a car in the parking garage at work as well. The rear cowl and tank are 8/10.
