So I was excited to get my windscreen in last night from Zero Gravity. It was their double bubble dark smoke windscreen. Well I got it out of the box and noticed that it was pretty flimsy, but I figured it would be fine. So I go this morning to install it on the bike.

Well first as I tried to get the bike up on the stand, it decided it wanted to hit the ground and relax for a bit. So yeah. It pretty much fucked up my fairing on the right side. image.jpg

Well after I got help and got the bike back upright, and cussed profusely about everything, I calmed down and set the bike up on the center stand. Then I removed all the fasteners that were holding the factory windscreen on. Well I popped that off and got the other screen out of the plastic wrap. Then I attempted to install it, by the directions. Well on the bottom of the screen, the slider fasteners were a bit too big. I did like the directions told me and gently pushed them to get them to pop into place. Well when I did, the screen cracked. I resisted the urge to rip it off and stomp up and down on top of it. At least for the moment. So I figured that side would be ok as long as it didn't break anymore. So I proceeded to the other side, making sure everything was lined up correctly.

Then I attempted to push the other side in place. Well it cracked too, but when it did, it split all the way across the screen. Well when it did, I lost my temper. Completely. I snatched the screen off and stomped the living crap out of it. It pretty much just shattered like the cheap piece of crap that it was. image.jpg

So yeah. I pretty much walked off for a minute and then came back after I cooled off a bit. Then I reinstalled the factory screen, which btw is twice as thick as the Zero Gravity unit.

So that's been my morning of fail. Hope it gets better from here. Just thought I would share.

Man THAT SUCKS!! No words can express how much frustration an incident like that would cause. Personally, I don't think I would have been able to contain myself after the bike adopted a horizontal position, so I must freely offer up that YOU SIR are the BETTER MAN.

If I had some white fairings for a 6th gen they would be on the way to you for just sharing that story. Alas, though my fairing bits, they would not fit. Sorry.

Thanks to you sir. I appreciate the generousity. That's what I'm finding out from the motorcycle community is that everyone seems to pull together. Even the local shops around here are willing to help riders out. It's a pleasant experience indeed to ride and be involved in such a wonderful community. I'm gonna go get hammered and play violent video games lol. Thanks for the kind words guys lol.

Why not avoid alcohol altogether and have some riding therapy instead?~

It's raining pretty good. And besides that, with the way my day is going, I'd end up in the woods somewhere lol

Move slow and don't speed in a small space, where is your rug or wood floor? Sliders? Use your foot or leg as a slider-you may break both but at least you save the plastic. Only safe bike is on its stand you know. You didn't even need to move the bike to put the screen on. ZG screens are thin to save weight and be able to see though them. When I drilled into the plastic to put sliders on -I had to drill 11/2 holes, but who cares It will save the rest of the plastics. Did you have a full tank of gas?:der:

Yeah sliders are on the list of future mods. And I'm working with what I've got lol. The fall snapped the feeler off of my right side peg though. Need to get that fixed eventually... And no, it was a half tank of gas.

Yikes - that was not a good morning. :blue:

    So what to do?

Well the first thing to say is you are now fully qualified to enrol on this thread http://vfrworld.com/forums/showthread.php/44298-You-dropped-it-how-many-time!
If nothing else Randy will be pleased to have a new recruit. :smile-new:

As you now realise, these things can adopt horizontal parking mode with little warning, so investing in some R&G frame sliders could be a wallet and pride saver.

As for the disaster with the screen, if you still want a taller screen but don't fancy buying with another ZG screen, you might want to consider the official Honda Touring screen option, which is made to the same quality standards as the stock screen, so is tough as old boots. Your local Honda dealer should still be able to supply one, otherwise you can usually get them from specialists people like David Silver Spares.

In the meantime now is a good time to find something else you really dislike and break it, as they say things like this happen in three's. Then you should be safe to take the VFR out for some stress relief therapy once the weather clears.

    Take care

Mostly just scratched the paint on the fairing. And broke the peg feeler off.

I've had 3 on my bike and they all fit just like the OEM. They are thinner and not as sturdy, but fitment hasn't been an issue.

Check out MRA screens, quality product I'm using now. They do come from Germany so price/delivery is more/longer. Twisted Throttle is a US distributor and may have them in stock.

I have had both the Puig and the Zero Gravity. I found that both are a little thinner than the OEM. Both the Puig and the ZG fit the 6th gen about the same. It is a tight fit but with gentle persuasion, they will go in. With this last one, before I left the dealers parkinglot I tried to put it on and discovered the tight fit. The guy from the service shop came out and told me that they will go in and was nice enough to do so for me. Mind you I have spent a pile of cash at that shop so they can do little things like this for me fro time to time. Was it quite cold by any chance when you were doing the install.

Personally, I prefer the ZG to the Puig that I have now. I like that the ZG corners are slanted down and don;t stick out like ears on the top corners.

It was about 50-55 degrees Fahrenheit. I wouldn't think that would be considered cold...

I have a puig screen for my vtec. First time fitting it was a little bit difficult (had to stretch the bottom slightly to get it to line up with the slide mounts) but after that its easy to take off/put back in. Guess it's now got used to the shape it should be

Yep ZG windscreens are flimsey. At the begining of the month i decided to take off all the plastics and shine them up right. I already had the ZG installed but I took it off to give the area around the lights a good polishing. Wouldnt you know that when I went to put it back on it cracked right across where one of the tabs go into the bike. Of course it was the very last plastic I had to install. SMH I have a nice shiny bike but an effed up windscreen. And no video gamers were hurt after this happen...cant say the same for the case of beer I had.
