I went on a 160 mile ride today, but I made a mistake on a off ramp going a bit too fast and my arms were like rubber after fighting a bad side wind. I stopped and wasn't straight and the saddle bags dragged my down. sliders worked perfect again, but I got some light scratches on one saddle bag. I wonder how I can fix them? Or maybe just cover them up with some red tape? Mark me down for three dumps! Only minor damage-one peg feeler, one bent lever. Oh I have folding levers now LOL! and saddle bumpers and sliders-.:dizzy::tinfoil3::scared:

Yep, ridding while fatigued can, of course, bite you on the rear. When I first started racing MX I found myself, and other novice riders, so tired that I could hardly hold on during the last few laps or so. Then an intermediate rider wisely recommend that I pace myself. Low and behold, within that first season I went from a middle of the pack rider to a fairly solid top 10 finisher. I also took up jogging, weight lifting, and stair climbing (i.e. "running" up and down bleachers). Drinking plenty of fluids was also key to this improvement imo.

Years later I applied this "pacing" technique to longer distance street/road ridding by taking breaks as soon as I began to feel tired (or, better yet, before). This is also a good time to drink plenty of water.

As for your minor "mishaps"; most relatively experienced street riders can expect to drop and/or crash their machines about once a year if they ride regularly. Sometimes I went a couple of years without such mishaps, and sometimes I managed to drop or crash more than once a year...

Despite how we break you balls, sonofwoof, glad it was nothing serious. The good news is your bags are red and your bike is black, and if I recall, you were still debating on getting the bags painted. With your propensity to drop your bike, maybe just wait a little longer before you decide on definitively fixing and painting the bags?

I wouldn't go with tape. That's just downright cheesey. If anything, tell some stories about how you were dragging the hardbags through a decreasing radius turn while passing a Harleydood. Chicks dig scars, and maybe one of those shemales will get excited seeing pictures.

The scratches are on the lower bottom, right now I think doing anything to them will just make them look worst. It was a strange drop, I was going right then read a sign that said I was going the wrong way, so I changed direction-that was a bad move. The bike was all most at a full stop and I knew it was going over so I just tried to let it fall easy and I knew the sliders would work, but of course I also knew the bags were going to get scratched. Oh well, riding with hard bags isn't easy.:cower:

Most of have witnessed how gravity wins sometimes. Just slap a few stickers there and save money on paint.

I'm glad woofy didn't get hurt and that the bags weren't damaged enough for him to get a decent trade in price on a set of training wheels.

I bought my bags pre-scratched and so far haven't done shite to them other than ride. They are red and don't match the bike but it doesn't seem to bother me cause when I'm touring, nothing is pretty including me. I mean really, can you see the scratch? Does red look wrong in this picture?
Running around town I leave them at home anyway. On my ride last weekend I did get comments about the scratches from folks I encountered but I just ignored them cause their bikes were ugly even without rash. LOL

    The Moral Of The Story
Don't waste time polishing when you have a case of the tipsies. Wait till that is out of your system and then worry about the polish. JMHO.

How many cats can be stuffed into those bags?

In honor of Woofie's latest asphalt encounter, I would like to submit a new aphorism for acceptance or rejection. "Keep the bag side up" Not one of my best but WTF it fits..

I second the motion. All in favor?
I can fit a medium size helmet on each of those OEM bags, with room to spare. Two medium helmets fit in the OEM trunk.

The prettiest bikes often see the least use. If I walk up to a gaggle of cruisers there are always the really nice ones but for me the one that's roughest is usually coolest.

And if it's a dual purpose and has ugly aluminum cases with stickers from its travels... I look around to see if I can chat with the owner.

My bike ain't perfect... Cracked fairing, chipped paint, but she's my lil honey;)

Worse shit happens exiting a freeway using the on ramp.

Contrary to what the stockholders, beancounters, salesdoods and much of the motorcycle community, tosses out there, everyone should not have or ride a bike.

This is a great point... the best motorcycle is the one that's ridden.
