How do you deal with this?

If you have this problem like me, how do you deal with it to get it out of your mind.

I have a beautiful 2010 VFR 1200 in excellent condition with only 4500 miles on it. I made a few changes like ECU re-flash, new exhaust, dialed in suspension perfectly for me, added dark Puig windscreen, tank pads and put new Michelin Pilot 4 2ct tires on it.
It looks awesome and I have no complains at all.

    Now,

Almost every day and every hour I look for another bike/bikes to get in addition to my VFR or trade my bike in (which is a bad idea since I still owe money on it)

No I don't have the extra money to spend at all.

How do I stop my "virus" ("a reason to") of constantly looking at new and or used different bikes that I think I would love to own even if that means replacing my perfect VFR.

My current bike does everything well that I can think of. There is nothing that I can say "I wish my bike can do this"

Do I know what I'm looking for in the new possible bike? No not really. I like the new FJR 1300, VFR800, VFR1200 DCT, Ninja 1000, Triumph Street Triple, Honda FZ 09, and many cruisers as well.

Does that mean I'm not happy with my bike?

Does anyone else go through this on a daily basis? Do you have a constant new bike itch all the time like I do?

How do you deal with it and get it out of your head?

    Thank you

    Thank you 20140815_144456-1.jpg

I have the exact same problem, although I'm partial to older bikes myself. I'm forever on CL looking for something fun. I love my '86 and I want to hold on to it for as long as it remains feasible, but that didn't stop me from picking up a '71 CL450 for a new project to drag out lol. As far as I can tell there's no cure... Good luck!

Two words, "internet porn". Lots and lots of internet porn. My favorite site for this is craigslist.org/motorcycles.

I know it works for me. All I have to do is just walk into my garage to see how well.

You need a project bike. Something to fix up or restore to occupy your mind. Something your always messing with to remind why you have the VFR.

It is an illness, there are worse ones to have. Just got over mine, not sure why, but I am not sure I am happier but have more money in my pockets.

This is a serious two wheel obsession that occupy our minds 24/7 and it's very hard to cure...

I hate to be the one to buck the trend, but that is exactly what it sounds like.

When I had my 5th gen, I never looked at other bikes. It wasn't until I had 3 seasons on it that I decided to try the 6th gen. Even now I think the 6th gen is a better looking bike. The luggage options are better, the suspension is better, the ergos fit me better... but I spend everyday looking at other bikes. I used to take off out of my driveway on my '99 and immediately crack a smile because of that engine. My '07 I have to wring its neck to even get a sense of satisfaction much less a smile.

I have my bike up for sale and I just bought it in April. It's got everything you could possible want on a bike, but it just doesn't work for me. Does that mean it is a bad bike? Nope. It's just not the right bike for me. I enjoy it so little that I make excuses NOT to ride and I am selling it for only what is financed and not what I have invested in it. I just have no personal connection with it. With my 5th gen, I tried pleading with the wife to let me keep it along with my 6th, but she was steadfast that it had to go. Now she says she should have let me just for a few months. Even she can see that I am not happy riding.

In my opinion, if you don't get up every day and find any reason to ride, then the bike is not what you wanted. And you will continue to look at bikes until you find one that fall in love with.

Thank you for your reply. I agree with everything you said :)

I had a brand new cruiser 2010 Kawasaki Vulcan 900... Sold it a year later because I didn't feel the connection...
I bought a 2013 Honda 500 R in February and sold it in May because I wanted to "try" something else...

Now I have my VFR 1200 and I honestly try find any possible reason to ride it because I love it so much. There is nothing I would change on that bike.

But something in my mind is telling me you should try this or that?! And I spend all day every day looking at other bikes just like you did.

Now if someone offered me let's say 3-5 thousand dollars more than what I paid for mine I would say no because the bike is that great and I really like it.

Why am I still looking and day dreaming about the other/different bikes? lol

My take is somewhat different. I don't see your "condition" as one of dissatisfaction. Although, you may be unhappy or bored with your bike. If that's the case, then go ahead and sell and keep looking for "the one." Personally, I think you're chasing a unicorn. I don't believe there's one perfect bike for anyone. I believe every bike is a balance of good and bad, likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses. That's why, those of us who love motorcycling, would ideally have a Jay Leno-sized garage filled with different bikes. The adventure bikes, the kick back cruising bikes, the pucker your a-hole race bikes, the constantly breaking down but gorgeous classic bikes, the cross-country touring rockets. There's just too many different types and needs and desires to have one bike fulfill it all. And so we convince ourselves that we're "unsatisfied" with our current ride when, in reality, your current ride is an amazing combination of performance and reliability. The fun and satisfaction you get out of ANYTHING is all in your head. I guarantee you there are countless guys who watch you ride by each day and think to themselves, "That's such a badass bike. If I had THAT bike, I'd be set. I'd never need another bike...".

I'm not immune to those feelings. In the short seven years I've been riding, I've owned a cruiser, a standard, a sport, a naked, and now a sport-tourer. Each one was a great bike in its own way. I would still be a lucky guy if I only ever owned one of them. But I was hunting for that unicorn too. I love my VFR and hope to keep it until my body just can't handle the ergonomics anymore. (Then, maybe put some adjustable rearsets and risers...). But I don't have any illusions that this is the "perfect" bike for me. It is one of many that I would love riding. Unfortunately, I neither have a Jay Leno-sized garage or a Jay Leno-sized bank account. So, constantly switching bikes or adding bikes isn't a wise option.

I believe it's not the bike. If you're unhappy and not wanting to ride (and it's not because the bike is uncomfortable), then it's your attitude. Find another bike and I'm sure you'll get that temporary high of something new, something different. But until you realize that there is no such thing as the one perfect bike and that every bike is series of compromises, you'll just keep getting "bored" and keep searching. But what do I know?! It's your head. I'm sipping my coffee, procrastinating before going into work, bummed that my bike is up on stands waiting for my wheels to come back from the powder coater so I can get her put back together and ride!

One last parting thought. Maybe you can relate to this when it comes to your motorcycle. I've often heard, "Show me the hottest woman on the planet and I'll show you a guy who's tired of (having sex with) her." That's the clean version, of course. Maybe you're that guy. Maybe it's not until you realize that the amazing woman, er, bike, you already have is all you really need, that you'll find the satisfaction you're looking for. Or maybe you just need to screw enough bikes, er, women, uh...you get what I'm saying, to get it out of your system.

Crap, do I really have to go into work?

    Metallyguitarded,
I really like what you said.

I need to learn to be happy and content with what I have and not to keep my mind busy with what I don't have.

    I like how you said:

And I should remind myself on that more often.

    Thank you for your input.

There is no cure. Toe Cutter is just in denial.
This is why I have 4 bikes and want another 20 more.

Are you like this with anything else? Cars, clothes, games, tv, etc, etc? Find a link. Maybe you are just bored easily.

All new bikes used to come out and I was a hankering and itching for a new ride. Reality is once these things hit 150 RWHP, well to me, it's all rider these days. Bikes are all faster than us and the bikes have more capability than the idiot twisting the throttle on it.

You buy another bike, fix it up, same thing. "I want something else!" and on and on and on. Great if you are wealthy, very stupid if you aren't. And you aren't if you owe money on anything.

I've built up my 1200 and it's almost done. Full suspension, decat, ecu flash, full tune, etc, etc. I'm the opposite. I'm happy to be done with it and just ride, buy tires and oil, and ride.

First world problems either way and a bit silly. Pay this 1200 off and go get a liter of your choice and add to the stable.

I'm so glad most people understand where I'm coming from...

"Are you like this with anything else? Cars, clothes, games, tv, etc, etc?" No nothing. No problems with anything else.

But I agree with you. After it's paid off I should/will get something different.
The crazy thing is as of right now, if I had money to spend on a bike I would probably get the exact same just a DCT version maybe.

    Thank you
