Well thanks to hoobatech and his Manual downloads I found the exact flow rate for the '87 VFR750F. Not sure if the '86 700 is the same, but I thought this might help out a folk or two...

I set mine up with a solid state pump that runs constantly and fitted a bypass with an adjustable pressure controller and set that at 1psi, it only has to maintain enough pressure up to the back of the needles and seats, it only has to be the equivalent of a gravity feed system

I have an 86 vfr700f and I run it on gravity feed. I didn't do anything technical - just replaced the line from the tank to the fuel crossover tubes at the carbs to make it as short and straight as I could. It doesn't drain the tank, but I can get about 3 1/2 gallons out before the bike shows any signs of fuel starvation. I watch the odometer and fill up before 150 miles.

Got pics of my setup just have to get grandson to put them here. The type of pressure regulator is a dial type like this one on ebay AU item number 151359784960. or just google adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Fuel pump is one of the generic square solid state ones like the Fawcet type. Get the pics up as soon as I can

Never blame a fuel pump until you've tried bypassing the (often faulty) pump relay !

I tried gravity feed on an '86 and had too many problems, removed it.

If an OEM pump is in working condition, you should measure about 3-4-5 ohms across the two wires.
