Hello - I am in search of an aftermarket aluminum chain guard. So far, I have found two companies. Thurn Motorsports in Germany and a company in the USA called Lazer Guard. I am not sure if Lazer Guard is still in business. I have sent a few emails and left a few VMs, but no replies to either.

Does anyone know of any other companies that distribute aftermarket chain guards for our bikes?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions

Thurn is still around? Surprised. I bought mine from them in 2007....then i had it black powder coated since their aluminum color does not match anything. I bought it because I think that the stock VFR chainguards look like poop.

Anyway, I am happy with it and I am very glad I bought it.

Bought my aluminum chain guard with personalized graphics from Lazer Guard many years ago. I was initially disappointed when I found that the finish work on the guard was rough and of poor quality.

It required a few hours of filing, sanding, and smoothing by me before any paint could be applied. In the end though it turned out pretty nice.

Can't speak to the quality of the guards that they build these days but I can say that the guard I have is rock solid and works perfectly.

Haven't seen or heard of anyone other than Thurn Motorsports or Lazer Guard that builds aluminum chain guards for the VFR's.

Thanks Guys - I think I am going to pull the trigger on a Thurn chain guard. They will powder coat them in black. The total price including shipping is the same as a Lazer Guard (plus I think Lazer Guard is out of business - email bounce back and no return phone call). The guys at Thurn said a 6 week turnaround - since they have to do another production run of black guards. I'll let you know how it goes.

I've ordered a couple parts from Thurn and have had no issues. I got my Harris hugger from them some years back.

Post some picks when you get it installed.

The plastic chainguards can be painted if needed. Easy to do. '

    Remove and degrease.
Abrade with 4/0 steel wool or 320-400 wet and dry sandpaper.
    Wash off and dry.
    Prime with Krylon Fusion.
    Apply finish coats.

High quality rattlecan finish coats work well.

I finally got around to posting some pictures of the Thurn chain guard I installed while doing my brake de-link project years ago. Much improved over the plastic guard especially when re-routing the single rear brake line through the swing arm. See attached pictures.

The chain guard is powder coated aluminum. The headers are stock, Jet Hot (ceramic) coated. I also permanently removed the panel heat shield on the right side for easy cleaning.

    Merry Christmas,
    Mike

I can vouch for the cleanliness of Mike's bike. I met him a few times in Pittsboro NC. He keeps it perfect. De-linked brakes, jet coated header, and probably the cleanest chain I've ever seen

I'll second, third, fourth whatever, great experience doing business with Thurn, and the chain guard looks great.
