hi guys & gals i wonder if anyone else has come across this before. or seen it' the engine casing lug on left side of my vfr800fi is snaped in half from a spill from the previous owner i bought the bike from. i am in the process of fixing the bike up in the back of my transit van its coming on nicely. its low milage and also one owner from new, with a service history that is like a phone book, even with purchase from new receipt,, please see photos...this is how it looked after being sat in a farm barn for a fair few years. the first picture is of the stand...

also i dont know if anyone remembers i did a vfr800fi in the rothmans livery last sesson & yes of course i still have it i will never sell that bike ever

thanks in advance if anyone has any idea's about the center stand, because i would like to try and retain it rather then remove

That broken c-stand bracket is removable from the engine case. I'd see if you can source one from a local breaker or maybe eBay and just replace it.

Have you used this Interthane 990 paint before?
Does it come in different colors?
It seems to be a marine paint so I am assuming it is fairly durable. True?
And where do you buy this stuff?

thanks i love bringing bikes back to there former glory and the vfr800fi is a bike i love the one in my avater is one such bike my prized vfr800fi 1998... and thanks for the heads up i will try and source one of them brackets

i payed £400 for the bike as it was, "i have all the bits to put her back to original as my other vfr800 had new fairings for painting in the rothmans colour scheme milage is 2300

yes its a marine 2 pk paint we use at work..i work on board a sea going escort tug,so the paint is free for me its not cheap to buy that i do know.. yes you can buy it in many many colours and the best thing is you do not need a clear coat over the top because its a very shinny finish and very hard wearing

thanks for the kind words makes doing winter projects all the more worth while

Check out an online parts supplier stateside for a exploded microfiche image of the centerstand.

The mount on the engine case is sheared. That unless I am way off needs welded. From the amount of corrosion on the stand, You may want to pull it and see if it needs straightening, welding or even some gussets.

Had a center stand on another bike collapse and it was not pretty.

Your paint will be just fine. In the states the equivalent is "Interlux". May be a little hard to find in places like Kansas or Nebraska but near the coasts, a ships chandler will have it and others.

For those wanting to try high quality marine grade paints, Don't guess, RTFM and use the recommended retardants, accelerators, reducers and the recommended spray hardware.

If you work on a tug, the guys at your yard can fix most everything.
