Went for first ride yesterday with the new tyres,What a difference, the bike felt glued to the road, never noticed such a difference in handling on any other tyre I have used on the many bikes I've owned, big thumbs up !!!

Same experience on my 94 model and on my CBR1100. Fantastic tyres.

Oooohhh nice! Getting excited, I just got the new shoes yesterday, the 4's. I need to wear out these crappy old battleaxes and get them off the bike. ~1000 miles left. They are so sketchy.

I'm in the same boat with sketchy Metzlers and can't decide between PR4's and Pirelli Angel GT's. Anybody here had both on a VFR and care to comment? Pretty sure the change will be revelatory for me no matter what and either way.

The unanswered question for me is not only which gives the best mileage, but which gives quality sport riding miles longest. I've had tires that after several thousand miles looked fine and were fine for TOURING, but not so much for SPORT touring. Also wondering about confidence in the wet.

I don't know about the PR4 but my PR3 tires gripped and lasted. I have about 12K on the front and it is WORN, but still holds the road like it owes it money. My rear did Tail Of The Dragon at about 9K miles and it held really well, rubber balled up on the edges. I have ridden in cold foggy wet roads and never gave it a thought. I've even ridden hard enough to get the back tire blue and gummy and it just held. The PR4 tires are supposed to grip and last even better so IMO I would go with them.

On the other hand, I have heard that the Angels have a sportier profile, but that it merely hearsay on my part.

If the tires are sketchy, save yourself and the bike and dump the tires. You already have a set of fantastic tires in possession. It's not worth trying to eek out a few miles on crap rubber. Duccmann once told me to be cheap in the right place and it's true. If you don't have confidence in your tires, then lose 'em quick. Medical bills and bike repairs are a LOT more than the most expensive tire change.

If your tires are "sketchy", toss them before they toss you! If they're just not as confidence inspiring as they used to be but have some good "commuting" tread on them, replace them now and donate them to a needy rider. It's a win-win, you get some new rubber and another rider gets a chance to keep rolling until they can afford some new rubber too.

Typically when I start to feel like I'm going to need new tires I usually go grab a set and get them on when I get some time and then offer the take offs to the riders in my area. Last few times I had some young kids who were in dire need of some new rubber I.e. Belts starting to show. Gave them a chance to keep riding to school without breaking their wallet.

As above, PR4s are awesome especially in the rain.

How much is your insurance excess? if a 1000 miles worth of use is less than your excess I think you should just change them.
I am sure you will be very happy with the results.

I've had PR4's for about 1k miles and couldn't be happier. I ride very fast and aggressive in the canyons and I got the rear tire all the way to the edge within the first 100 miles without any issues. And I currently have the smallest chicken strips on the front that I've ever had with any bike/tire combo (about 1/8"). FWIW, over the 4 years I had my 2007, I ran 1 set of PR2's, 2 sets of PR3's, 1 set of Angel ST's, and 2 sets of Roadsmart's. I would recommend the PR4's all day.

Very charitable Daryl, I will adopt your idea when my PR3's get a little further along. Thanks for the inspiration.

Always a good pay it forward thing to do. I actually have several sets of track tires that are going to some young track whores that will finish them off in a day or 2. I still have the stock VFR tires, can't give them away it seems. lol

PR4s are awesome in both wet and dry conditions. I didn't think PR3s could be improved upon but these are the best tires for any VFR.

"Track Whores!!" Gives new meaning to hooking up.. LOL

I took the Pridmore school when Reg was still teaching. They let you know right out front that if you show with "sketchy" or whatever the latest buzzword is for shitty rubber, they send you home and keep the money.

What is funny is that nobody was even trying to push particular brands and nobody fell off.

I took the course on my warmed over SR500 and a pair of almost new Avons. Reg took my bike around for a couple of laps..a hell of a lot faster than me..

The really fast guys are interesting. They seem quite normal until the raceface goes on..
