Stock muffler question

Hello all! My first post... Can anyone say conclusively whether a stock 2012 muffler will fit and function normally on a 2010 and vice versa? They have different mfg. part numbers. Thanks!

 

I did a little research on other forums. The VFR1200F muffler part numbers are: 18310-MGE-305 (2010) and 18310-MGE-D40 (2012). The fact that the first two sets of characters in Honda part numbers match does not mean the parts are interchangeable. For example, a 2005 TRX450R piston (part number 13101-HP1-670) is not interchangeable with a 2006 TRX450R piston (13101-HP1-600).

Based on the above, I’m going to play it safe and figure that they are not interchangeable.
