I Now think just like my car, you need a Sport tire in the summer, then come end of fall a rain type tire like a PP4 is best,. So Q3's in the Hot summer then later towards the end of riding a PP4 would be best. It's all about using the right tire for the type of riding and conditions the Black beast is riding in. VFR is basically a tuner type bike.

Oddly until the last daft sentence SOWs statement while impractical wasn't actually wrong.

In previous threads had stated that I found Q2s brilliant in warm / hot conditions but frightening in cold damp conditions whereas found the PR3s I'd replaced them with awesome in the cold and wet but hard work with slow turn in and imprecise when riding with meaning through long distance tight twisties in good conditions so ended up hating them.

VFR is a tuner type-isn't it one of the most versatile bike ever made-it can do sport riding, sport touring not too many bikes can do both well. I would say the PR4 would be better than the PR 3 as its a more up to date tire. The q3 isn't as good as a sport touring tire like the pr4 in nasty cold and rain. All you need to do look at what they were designed to do-no tire can do everything well. But I almost want to get another set of the Q3' just to get them real cheap-they look like such a cool tire. I am looking to up grade my brake pads too- a cheap mod- that and q3 on should make a real fast ride-a big endurance sport bike is what I call it.

Q3's have been upgraded to work well in rain with longer grooving in the tires, they are more pointy too for real fast turn in-you can see that just by looking at them. I all most think they might be too sporty a tire and turn too fast when cruising along at a slow pace-my scotts damper however can make the bike turn slower with a turn of the dial to adj to the tires.

The PR4 DOES do everything well. That's the whole point of it.

PR 4 isn't as fast on a hot summer day like a Q3 is.

Depends on the rider....Marc Marquez would be faster on PR4's on the street than anyone on Q3's, slicks, whatever. Trust me, if you can't even get a knee down, you will never reach the limits of a PR4 in a hard corner, with no mistakes. You're wasting your money switching between 2 sets of tires.

I beg to differ, this past Saturday we were out in Central Cal and VFRMan was on his 1995 VFR750 running on PR3's and he passed and kept well ahead of a rider on a 2012 BMW 1000RR running Dunlop Q3's! It's all about the rider sometimes. When I get a chance, I'll post the GoPro footage to back this statement up!

that just better rider not better tire. The pr4 are also $130 more than the Q3's. I just didn't want to spend any more money, but maybe I should have because the PR4 would wear 2x less than the Q3. I am very happy to have those Q3's however-they will surely be the best tire I ever ran so far.

Well to his credit, he has a point, VFRMan is the better rider! However, they were both going at a pretty decent clip (100+), and both sets of tires held up to the scrutiny of their speed and since he claims the PR4 isn't as fast, my point is proven, as well as DriverDave! To make this thread worth while, expect the video soon...

Have just replaced my Metzeler M7s with PR4s after the Tire dealer I've been using the last 10 years convinced me the PR4s have noticeably better handling characteristics than PR3s.

The Tire dealer placed a new PR4 Front next to a new PR3 Front from his stock and immediately you can see they have a more rounded profile in comparison, he then showed me a pile of PR3 Fronts with good tread that had been replaced early with a comment that unlike the PR3s so far the riders that have gone to PR4s haven't complained about them and the only feedback has been positive.
