Leave them as is. That way if anyone on any forum sees you coming they will know not to be in the way when you fall over.

Unless you are talented with paint, I would just take them off and take them to a professional painter. They will properly sand, mask and prep them and give them a far better painting than most of us can do. But to avoid the masking around the reflectors and the "Interceptor" insignia, remove the reflectors and badging. The reflectors are just held on with a simple bolt. The badging you will need a heat gun on low heat, and carefully use a small putty knife to remove the badge. With proper two sided automobile moulding tape, they go back on easy enough.

What I regret when I had mine painted, is I did not get them to give two coats. I tend to kick the bags when I throw my aged old fooken feet over the saddle. My used bags were red so had to get them painted white.

Take your paint code to the paint shop. It is under your seat. They can match up the colour from that.

What Randy said. At least get a quote from a good body shop. You might find that paying a professional is worth it vs the end result of doing it yourself.

That being said you can get decent results on your own. Last season I refinished / repaired one of bags after a tip-over. Overall I'm pleased with how it came out. Link: Refinished Saddlebag After Tip Over

Another alternative would be some kind carbon fiber vinyl wrap. Link: If you don't like the red or blue....here is option I think the carbon fiber would look good against your black bike. You could do just about anything with a wrap.

I can up with a Great idea-use the red for Racing stripes and simple use black carbon look to cover up the scratches then it would look really sharp. AS usual, I find the Best Solution to any problem!

Another fix that would be right up your alley would be to glue a couple of those big black trashbags to your red ones. If you take your time and be careful this can look great, Any left over scraps can be used also for fringe.

My wife has black factory bags on her 2008 and I was looking at painting them to color match. The biggest issue I ran across is that it is difficult to remove the lids from the backs of the bags which I think is necessary to do a quality job of painting. Also the paint from Color Rite is not cheap.

I have painted several bikes and they are not simple to do. A lot of proper prep work and material cost. My wife also has the top case and I would suspect that if I brought all three cases to a paint shop they would want at least $500 to complete. I would also think that if I did the paint myself that I would have $150 to $200 in paint and supplies.
