I am swapping a 1999 engine into my 2001. Should I go with the the fast idle system from the older bike or the 2001 with the wax unit?

I like the manual control unit. Fewer problems.

While I understand Honda's intentions with the fast idle wax unit, I have to say that the manual "choke" equivalent is in no way a bother, but maybe I'm showing my age! Every bike I've ever owned (since 1982!) has had some sort of manual cold start adjuster. As TN says above, there's one thing less to go wrong! The ability to manually adjust the cold start RPM sounds like a bonus to me.

Thanks for insight. Most of my bike's are carburated. So I don't think it will bother me going with the lever. So I decided to keep the fast Idle lever and ditch the wax unit.

The wax unit occasionally goes bad, Ive seen threads where guys had to replace. - The lever? Never needs fixing....
