Been reading voraciously on these forums about R/Rs, stators, starter relays, wiring connectors, etc. One thing I have NOT seen is anyone talking about successfully relocating the R/R somewhere on the bike with better airflow. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has attempted to do this and how it went. I'm about to do some surgery on my '93 and wondered if it would make sense to relocate the R/R, now, if there's a good spot available on the bike. I'd like to avoid duct taping it to the forks or front fender.

    Thanks in advance,

    Bill

Bill on my 86 I mounted mine on the left hand side just below the sidecover faring above the footpeg, not easy and I had to weld a bracket on to mount it but works well

General note for this...There are lots of cool ideas going on... but the newer design MOSFET R/R run much cooler anyhoo, so if you update your system, relocating is less of an issue.

I moved the new MOSFET R/R down onto the passenger peg bracket on my 5th gen.

The new MOSFET ones are way more reliable, but I think as so much heat generates on that section of the frame - it's a good idea to move it anyway, if just for comfort purposes more than anything! Less burning arse cheeks etc ;)
