Got a clutch kit for Christmas for my U.S. spec 2001. Everything I've read says 98-99 have one setup of disks (9 friction disks with one different from the rest), and 00-01 use a different setup with 8 friction disks, all disks the same. Before I take everything apart I need to be sure if I have the correct set. According to Barnett the set I have is for a 2001: 303-35-20046. It has 8 disks, 7 of 1 size and one with a larger inside diameter. The service manual only shows the 8 Honda disks as marked brown (6) or blue (2), with blue at both ends and brown in between (no mention of different sizes). So the big question: Does an original 2001 have one disk a different size, or are all 8 disks the same size?
    Thanks!

    Jim

EDIT: I looked at a Clymer service manual for a 2000, and it says that for a 2000 all friction disks are identical having the same part number.

The clutch will have the large disc with judder spring against the clutch basket. Withoot it the disc will tend to drag and chew into the basket over time.

The '98-99 have the spring, the 00-01 don't. The one odd disk is a larger inside diameter, smaller contact area.

Took it apart. All fiber disks are the same size. So, the Barnett kit part #303-35-20046 which is supposed to be for a 2000-2001 will NOT work for my 2001. Can't verify for a 2000. I suppose a person could use the incorrect disk in there, but I sure wouldn't. And as I had mentioned above, as per the manual there is no judder spring or anything between the first disk in and the clutch basket.

And for those real techies, the first and last disks are the same, with the friction "pads" being about 5.5mm wide. The other 6 disks have the "pads" about 4.5mm wide.

I did get a reply from Barnett, and they admitted that the 2000-01 disks are different than 98-99, and that the difference "slipped past them". They offered to send me the correct size disk, but I had already returned the kit.
