It's 600's.....no surprise nobody really cares anymore. Suzuka is now the race Daytona used to be. Sad, really.

For sure. Its all Harleys reving up and down the streets and a giant look at me show. Its like they are oblovious that there is actually racing going on. I miss the good old days there. Use to be so much fun. Not saying these Chineese clad Harley doods are not having fun. Just not my kind I guess.

We got to pit beside the Yamaha crew and had Roberts and Lawson around a bit in our pit as Kenny was a good friend of Norma Bonnelli . A lot of time it wasn't just the racing but getting there and the antics that took place made it all that much more fun .

up to '84 Daytona 200 ran under AMA F1 rules....as a result Yamaha created OW69? the 680cc version of their GP bike....just for Daytona. Honda ran their GP NSR500 i think. the Honda vs Yamaha yearly battle was epic.

In '82 Honda ran the mighty V4 FWS1000...the nastiest 4 stroke I've ever heard...thunderous, but a tire eater... do a google search on that behemoth sometime.

in '85 they switched to Superbike rules for the 200, killing the factory 2 strokes and GP specials. Obviously those very unobtanium factory specials and their top international riders drew the spectators. Daytona was unique in that regard, attracted all the greats from the 60's through the 80's till the rules changed. In that respect, Daytona, AMA, DMG shot themselves in their collective feet....a mere shadow of what it was. Sad indeed.

Yes, if they (Rainey/MA and DMG) can first reach agreement. This year they were unable...hence ASRA became the sanctioning body.

Whether their failure to agree was financial or a matter of technical rules (I'm not sure thats public knowledge) i'd always be hopeful a return to its former international status would be in Daytona's future. If anyone has the clout, Rainey has.

    Very cool!
Did you know Henry DeGouw or Scott Rehl? They ran TZ 750's at Daytona and all around and I think Henry is still the CCS director. He use to keep his TZ at a friends motorcycle shop in the front window exactly like it was when it finished its last race. I'll post a photo of it later.
