Now if only they would detect the law... built in radar detection would be cool.

Just more unnecessary, expensive electronic crap that I don't want.

I wish they'd spend money on better things...like gear driven cams. Can you not assume most guys riding a VFR1200 are going to be pretty good at wearing gear and keeping a good situational awareness?

It would make more sense to put the technology on a beginner's bike, disregarding the costs.

Radar detectors are becoming less reliable in detecting speed reading radar. A riding friend of mine has a radar detector that, since the appearance of this blind spot detection on cars, is constantly going off. We have paired Sena coms so I also hear that damned thing constantly going off and there is no law to be seen.

As a safety device, these things are great. The down side is that newer drivers are becoming reliant on this type of thing and forego basic defensive driving such as shoulder checks. It would be tragic if someone made a lane change because the did not hear their device sound, and ran over one of us on a bike. As it is, they do that now. I think the risk has increased to some degree.

I have a nearly identical system on my BMW M3 car--- and it has some value. The dynamics of using it on a bike,,,, well, Im skeptical. There are some many inputs coming into your eyes, ears, body on a bike that adding another portfolio of stimuli might overdo it. At least for me. ABS is great on any bike in IMHO, but it does not enter your life every moment of driving like these aids sometimes do.

Gear driven cams on any vehicle are good. On a Honda V, they are really good.

Good God do I wish that they would make that VF12 more like my 86 vfr. I would buy one in minutes. At any price. Today. With Cash money. In any color. While smiling.

Even using similar frequencies (k band?) every device generating EM radiation has a unique signature to its signal. There are already radar detectors for cars that filter out the car's own collision detection system. For a bike the detector is going to have to learn the entire "family" of car collision signals, but this is just an intermittent technical problem that will be solved.

Of course this is like antivirus or any form of protection, it never ends but instead is an ongoing cat and mouse game. When this is solved the police will adapt their guns to try to emulate what they know is being ignored...and the game goes on and on.

Something else to take some of my attention from being focused forward and peripheral vision. No thanks. No helmets looking backwards either.

I hope if I ever buy a new bike that invention is not part of the package. Asking me to give up watching my Oprah re-runs is just not in the cards. I doubt this gadgetry includes overhead sensors that warn of seagull droppings or possible alien abduction.

What would be cool is to hook this gadget up with a cruise control and aboot six of seven little TV cameras and just let it do all the work. This would be great for those who really like scenery and taking pictures of bikes as elements of landscapes. For more on that see Google and "pix of japanese tourists" .

    ...and what Grey said too..

Abolish helmet laws, stop making 'em wear seat belts in cages, cut out all this safety equipment (auto accident detection, assisted brakes, blind-spot monitoring,) and just subscribe to survival of the fittest. I'm not sayin' we should cull stupid people or anything. Maybe just stop with all the warning labels and let the problem sort itself out.

Seems like a useless feature. I think I would prefer to have something like a rear facing camera hooked up to my helmet, sort of like a skully helmet (RIP Skully).

Honda needs to focus on features that matter.
