Picked up this bike as my first from the second owner (he had it since '02).

It's in pretty good shape. Cosmetically front blinkers need replaced and got a good little bit of damage to the left side of the front fairing.
So far I have went partially through it....

Checked and aired up rear shock (seems to work decently)
    Determined front forks need seals
Replaced plugs and wires (were factory)
Flushed and filled radiator (didn't need it)
    Changed oil (past due)
Adjusted rear valves while I had tank off ( front has alot more valve/ chain noise)
Found and cleaned K &N air filter
Cleaned grime off chin spoiler from valve cover leak
Also ordered fuel filter, valve pan gaskets, jets (115 and 118 mains plus one needle spacer. (runs a bit lean on non eth. free fuel and I needed an excuse to pull and clean the carbs.

Has about 24k miles on it. PO barely rode it enough to keep it going, as was his reason for selling, but for my $1K to get on it and ride it home it was worth it.
I was able to find, what I guess is most of the original power just by cleaning air filter, changing oil, and putting a gallon of fresh 100 octane eth free fuel on top of the unknown old fuel in the tank.

A quick full throttle shift into second causes the front wheel to momentarily leave a little daylight under it and then hold the forks stretched most of the way to 3rd. I was surprised it pulled so well, but imagine this is probably what i should expect out of a decent running stock first gen 700.

Anyhow sorry to bore you all with details will add a pic if I got it, if not will put some up tomorrow.

Think yours is definitely a cleaner example. Once I get some miles under my belt and am ready for another bike, I hope to be able to find parts to get mine to a complete nearly unblemished state.

Sadly, mine is sitting in the shed right now with the carbs on a card table in the house. She quit running 8 years ago with 49,000 on the clock, and I went out and bought my '07 RWB VFR800. Then my Aprilia ... then my XRR. Guess why I haven't made progress putting my 700 back on the road . She still looks about the same though.

Oh yeah, I'm her only owner ...

Starting to see a lot of the sister ships! Still fun to ride, easy to work on.

Really starting to like this bike.
I have rode a few more modern sport bikes and this has a much more relaxed seating position, doesn't feel like your being forced into a full on time attack crouch. But you can still get down and hit the twisties a bit. 100-110 comes pretty quickly which is plenty fast enough for a me.
