Hey Guys, new to the Forums, I have had my VFR1200F 2010 since day 1 in 2011. I have done:

    - 1/2 gear mod to 3rd gear
    - K&N filter
    - 2 Bros slip-on with No DB Killer
    - Pair Modification
    - Power commander 5
    - O2 optimizers

Next on the list is the Auto Tune kit and catalytic converter removed.

My question is and I have seen others do it, but how much louder does the exhaust get with the catalytic converted removed and straight pipe in place? I am asking because I had a good talk with Dynojet regarding the Auto Tune kit. If you remove the cat, then you will only need the single O2 sensor Auto tune kit. But If I don't remove the Cat, I will need the dual sensor kit to get readings from both headers. Right now bike is within acceptable noise laws in Edmonton where I live but want to know how much louder will it get by removing the cat. Anyone have any DB numbers or something?

    Thanks

    John

I removed the internals from the cat. It didn't increase the exhaust noise much at all. That with a pipe and Guhls Magic really makes the 1200 come alive!!

So you kept the catalytic converter just gutted the internals? I am going to send my ecu away to don in a month or two. That way i dont lose my ride season with the winter. If you dont mind me asking, what kind of changes did don due to the ecu for you? I am still thinking on keeping the power commander on the bike for the a/f part of it? Also do you know if gutting the cat will affect the ecu flash or has nothing to do with that?

    Thanks

If you do a search on Guhls Ecu flash, you will have lots of info. Well worth the $$$. Just let Don know what mods ur bike has, pipe, cat removal, air filter, etc. He will program the Ecu accordingly. Check out his web site at Guhl racing. He does a lot of model bike Ecu. Very good company to deal with! You will not be disapponted.

Alright Guys I finally decided to gut the cat out. Results are pretty good. With my M2 Vale 2 Bros slip on, from 0-3000 RPM really no difference in sound levels. However over 3000 rpms it loses the deeper grunt sound and gets just a little higher pitch but still deep though. Also the throttle response is way better and much snappier too.

    That looks great.
I was having a good look at my collector pipes this afternoon and it's not an easy job.
