    Hi everyone,

I'd like to mention The problem I have with my bike.
    It's 2002 model.

Three days ago while I was ride from my work to home the vtec stoped working.
It was running perfectly and the temp was great for the summer season here.
I was playing with an other bike on the road and everything was perfect until I stopped to a red light.
After I started the vtec stoped and the bike couldn't get up to 10.000 rpm.
Other than this issue the bike runs as always.
I read about the temp and all the other post I found but I'd like to ask if there is anything that I can do. Or it needs to be in a workshop.

    Thanks a lot.

Are you sure it's VTEC and not another issue with the bike?

What have you diagnosed or checked so far?

I didn't do anything so far. The next day I let it warm up and still the same. I open the throttle and after 7000 rpm that my vtec kicks nothing until 10.000 where starts to act like it's over speed.
It's starts normal the rpm are ok oil and water is ok.
The engine works perfect except the vtec part.

What temperature is the engine at when you're testing VTEC? When was your last oil and filter change?

Check the fuse and solenoid that operate the VTEC before you go to any length.

It was around 70 degrees and normal is around 80-85. The service was 1000 kilometers before.
I'll find where are the fuses and the solenoid and I'll get back to you.
As I remember the fuse box is under the right side and the solenoid I'll find on the way.

Thank you very much my friend for your help.

VTEC won't engage until the engine hits about 68C and sometimes as high as about 72C.

That said, I would check the fuses and the solenoid first. I can check my service manual for you this evening if you can't find them.

Sounds like it is in limp mode, weird there is no FI or CEL. Plus one on what Jeff said. Double check the VTEC solenoid, coolant temperature and sensor, oil pressure, voltage etc...

It will be very helpful if you have the time!! Now I'm out of the country for work and I'll start checking the bike in next week.

Maybe you just have a stuck-open thermostat so the bike is not reaching a high enough temperature for the VTEC engagement? My guess is the engine probably won't rev out high in 2-valve mode compared to 4-valve. I guess a simple check would be to sit with the engine idling at a standstill until the water temperature gets to 80-90C, and then get riding hard to see if the VTEC is behaving. If the thermostat is stuck open, the water temperature will start to drop as soon as you start moving so best to do the test promptly.

Next time you start the bike from cold, keep your hand on the radiator. If it slowly steadily warms, the thermostat is stuck open. If it stays mostly cold until the water temperature gets to around 78-80C, and then suddenly gets too hot to touch, the thermostat is good.

There is something else wrong with your bike besides the vtec not engaging. The bike will hit red line (12,000+ rpm) with or without vtec. Curious why the CIL isn't lit ...have the O2 sensors been bypassed? What mods have been done? What excactly was the service you had done?
