    Hi Honda Lovers.
I bought the RED 2014 VFR 2 month ago with 770 miles on it, I put 300 miles on it and am thinking to do an oil change .May have or may not have its first oil change and service at 600 miles.

I do not want to do it my self , and will take it to Honda only service in Huntington Beach, What should I ask for this service and How much would be the acceptable verdict?

Thank you and hope to ride with you some day.

You can do it yourself. It is not hard, but I guess you lack the practical experience. Go on youtube and you'll find numerous videos on how to change the oil on a motorcycle, some of which refer to vfr's. Just follow the directions.

There is really only one thing you have to be very careful about and that's tightening up the sump (drain) plug. Considering your lack of practical experience I would go out and buy a torque wrench. The money on labour saved by not having shop do it will probably cover the cost of the torque wrench. I advise you get a manual for your bike. Basic maintenance can be done by any owner provided they have a manual and the right tools. Just take it slowly.

    Give it a try!

You should ask for its first service. Has it had its service book stamped?

It only had 770 miles, and the seller couldn't tell you if the 600 mile service had been done???? That seems a bit odd. If you can't confirm that it was done, go ahead and take it to the dealer and just get it done. You'll have plenty of time before your next service to figure out how to do it yourself.

I would have changed the oil immediately even if he told me it was just changed. Its very easy to do but if your not comfortable let Honda do it, going to probably be a flat rate. Ask them before.

First time the filter has to be changed, you might have a problem loosening it. There is very little room on the 14's to use anything but a socket type wrench.

If your wrench slips on the flats, then try my handy dandy removal tool modification.

Oil change is easy, learning to take off fairings to get to filter and plug is bit of a chore, take your time and don't force anything. Combination of bolts and plastic pins, you will get the hang of it.

The dealer doesn't know, that's just not right. SMH I'd make em do it for free. WTF that's just lousy customer service.

It sounds like you have very little experience with a wrench. Everyone has been there at one point or another. I would suggest if you are not sure of things, take it in for its first service. If you take it to where you bought it from, I would expect them to be giving the whole bike a quick going over to check for things that may be loose from assembly.

A complete service manual is a great thing. You may fond one to be downloaded over at VFRDiscussion.com. the links to service manuals here on this site do not work. Failing that, Hanes publishes service manuals for many vehicles. I don't know if they have one for an 8th gen VFR. I have both manuals for my 6th gen.

It was mentioned here already, careful not to overtighten things. I stripped the threads in my oil pan and had to replace that when I first got my bike. We all learn from mistakes. There is another thing to be abundantly aware of when you do an oil change. Be extremely careful not to over tighten the oil filter. Hand tight only. Not a herculean grip either. Be sure to smear a fine layer of clean oil on the rubber gasket on the filter first.

One last thing on oil changes DO NOT USE A K&N OIL FILTER...EVER! They are absolute crap and there is ample documentation even here that they fail, spray oil all over the place and are absolutely dangerous if that happens when you are riding.

Did you tighten the grab rail bolts with a torque wrench?
The torque settings for relevant bolts are in users manual
As mentioned before if you don't have one - get one
It will save under or more importantly over tighten even the little jobs

Was wondering did you get a chance to watch while he did the change?
With the 6 gen after watching the Honda mechanic do mine, tweaked it a bit and now can do it without removing and body work only five of those fookin lame plastic clips and five bolts---- now that's not ta say that you never take at least both sides annually to check everything.
Just got taught by watching---- he didn't remove anything to get to the oil filter---I was shocked, but much easier on a lift his way.
    Takes me maybe 20 minutes

not really , i did not see it until they return it from post op,they admit the patient at emergency and return to ward after the surgery is completed and it clearly sez no costumers behind the line, they do not want us to learn.Good thing we have this forum.
