    Mates,

As there's long-standing chatter about earlier headers supposedly being superior for power--2mm greater diameter, no cat--has anyone done a before vs. after of later headers being replaced with earlier? Original road test dyno charts reveal no discernable difference, and larger headers/ports/valves certainly do not always make more power. Not that I'm interested in making the change, but, I like facts...

    Best,

    Kristian

    98/99, 00/01, 02-13 and any ebay catless header of your choice = +/- 1 or 2 hp.
More importantly Two Brothers Racing headers (and therefore Erion Racing as well) have shown gains of +6 whp and about 8mph of trap speed increase in the 1/4 mile.
Moral of the story, don't get to worked up over oem and oem replacement headers, the gains are negligible.

Copied from one of Mohawk's posts:

I just retrieved some fiiles from a backup of my old PC, one of which was the original 4 dyno runs I did.
    Run #
    1. No snorkel, no flapper, K&N filter, motad headers, Delkevic can = 98hp.
    2. As above plus PC3 Custom map1 = 101hp. (not much power gain, but much smoother throughout the rev range)
    3. As above plus my own spec cams, reduced length intake velocity stacks & can moved to high mount = 102hp.
    4. As above plus PC3 Custom map2 = 107hp.

    motad vs two brothers.jpg
    [IMG]

    5. As above plus Big airbox mod & Rapid Bike Racing module self mapped via narrow band, + ignition advance = 112hp.
    6. As above, plus TBR exhaust headers & my Yoshi Style intake stacks, fueling set manually from additional wideband sensor = 118hp.
    7. As above (Not shown), Rapid Bike Racing rev limit raised to 12,500rpm, MTB fuel tuning added = 120hp.

As you can see, the first run:

"1. No snorkel, no flapper, K&N filter, motad headers, Delkevic can = 98hp."

Had those fancy catless headers and some other tricks, but still only put down 98whp (the same as most stockish 98-present VFR800's)

    Even after tuning:

"2. As above plus PC3 Custom map1 = 101hp. (not much power gain, but much smoother throughout the rev range)"

It still didn't put out much more than any other stockish VFR800, at 101whp. This is, not coincidentally, the same number I put out after going Catless header/ slip-on/ air filter / air box mods/ custom tune....

My dyno after Catless header/ slip-on/ air filter / air box mods/ custom tune back in 2009:

WOW, a NA Veefer with 120 RWHP must be a blast! Sounds like a LOT of fun to ride! You may actually have traction concerns coming out of a corner too hard. Cool!

No it won't. It will be the same stupid shit and the same fake dynojet charts that are absolutely meaningless for the sake of any relative comparison. It is good for a belly laugh, however.

If somebody could figure oot how to make these damned V4s run cooler, headers could be made out of ABS sewer pipe. If anyone comes up with this, I will post details on how to paint them in some really neat colors.

All this work and very little gains. If you want a V4 sport tour with lots of HP and torque just buy the Tuono 1100. Stock with 175 and 90 lbs of torque. With the normal cheap mods even bigger gains. AND 100 lbs lighter!! Throw on bags and sport tour, or go the the track for an adrenaline grip and rip session.

Yep^ Still as crazy as it is, there's something about the vfrs personality that the Tuono doesn't have, that and the $12K difference.

CR, Lucky me spotted it right off the bat. first post there. gota be quick these days ;)

Forgot to add the Tuono has every electronic trick you would ever want, an incredible Ohlins suspension, quick shifter. And this cool option.

One cool accessory that deserves mention is the V4-Multimedia Platform (V4-MP), which allows you to link your smartphone to the bike. It can display real-time telemetry and allow you to change the settings of the APRC controls from your phone, so V4-MP is a great way to enhance your riding experience. On track, your phone’s GPS can tell the bike exactly where you are, which allows you to see what the bike is doing in every corner and even make ATC/AWC suggestions to improve your lap times. You can even fine-tune the ATC and AWC corner by corner by selecting from a growing list of pre-programed race circuits around the world.

You can pick up a factory 2016 pretty cheap right now.

I think when he says "there's something about a VFR's personality"...he means inexpensive. The Tuono is clearly a superior machine....you just gotta pay for it.

Yes from 2 k rpm's to 14k, it is sweet music. Very different than a VFR. I love the sound of my VFR but the Ape is even better.
