My bike has 47xxx miles on it. Is this ok? Haven't really gotten to ride it yet but picked it up for a decent price.

Honda went to town on the 86/87 generation of the gear drive VFR700/750 to correct the public perception of failures of the earlier model. As a result the engines are very well engineered and good for high mileage. The rest of the machine will have aged the same way as all bikes do, so things like the shock, chassis and suspension bearings, rubber hoses etc may be quite tired and in need of some rejuvenation if you want the bike to ride as well as it runs.

Don't forget to post up some picture of your new toy.

I have ~103,000 miles on my 87 VFR700 and it still runs great! I'm very impressed!

Interesting to find out what your compression numbers are at that mileage. Have you tested ?

No I haven't tested compression but it would be interesting to see. I did however just finish checking and adjusting valves and amazingly they were all within spec and last time I checked was probably close to 50,000 miles ago.
