Folks - I need to install a heavier spring on my Penske 8983 shock - how difficult is the procedure and does the shock have to come off? Thanks.

Depending on your level of mechanical skill. It's not to overly difficult. Yes the shock will need to come out, then you'll need a spring compressor to get the spring off the shock. Most rental places can rent you one. unless you do a lot of shocks are one of those tools one usually doesn't have on hand. So yes, it's doable, IF.

Thanks RVFR. I thought I had seen an "on the bike" method but maybe not. Anyone have detailed instructions for removal with pics if possible?

Head over to vfrDiscussion.com and check the download section for the 'Racetech Suspension Bible', it has plenty of how-to info on all things suspension.
