Fork seals and what else?

    So I noticed my fork seal leaking pretty good today after a ride up and down the 33. I figure If one has to be replaced its worth replacing the other one as well. My questions are:

    How difficult is this process on a 6th gen? I'm fairly mechanically inclined but have limited tools.

    If I am going to replace the fork seals what else is worth doing? What else isn't massively expensive, is in the same area, and would be a good idea to replace while I'm doing fork seals?

    If this is a shop job, about how much am I looking at? I know shops across the US vary but what is a ball park figure I should be looking at? I live in SoCal so I'll add about 15% to out of state figures.

    There's about 2 hours work involved, the only thing special needed is a fork seal driver, but I use a 2 foot length of PVC conduit pipe that is just slightly bigger id than the 43mm fork od.

    You may want to replace the upper and lower bushings, these are a wearing item that allows the fork tubes to slide against each other. You may need new copper sealing washers for the bottom of the forks.

    Definitely get a torque wrench.

    TRY CLEANING IT FIRST. It's amazing how the first reaction is to rip everything apart. Dust and dirt can get in there.

    Incredibly overpriced for a chunk of plastic, but it's alot easier to use on your hands that a thin slip of plastic. You just clip it on the tube and slide it down. It has two different edge profiles, one for the oil seal and one for the dust seal

    Had mine done at wheels in motion when I first purchased my bike. Remember it really wasn't that expensive--- but that was 6 years ago and since replaced again installing Jamie's inserts

    Mine never made it past the oil seal. Just got all messed up. It was a waste on my time.

    Just try a thin feeler gauge; maybe that will be all you need.
