Hi guy's I have had a 2000 5th gen since 2014. Oil gets changed every 4000 klm. It was neglected and had 17000 klm when I bought it and oil level was way too high and had condensation in the oil. After all fluids flushed and cleaned I noticed the oil level rises about 5-8ml between oil changes and smells of fuel. The bike runs well doesn't blow smoke. I've pulled the injectors and had them cleaned and injector dude said none were leaking but 1 or 2 had bad spray patterns. Any other ideas before I put throttle bodies back on.

You're best bet is to do a compression test.
The only way fuel can get into the oil is past your piston rings.
But that is unlikely as VFR motors are bulletproof.

I know you said it has a fuel smell. Was the oil discolored or thin looking at all?

That's a tough one to figure, these motors are pretty hardy, so hard to say from here. You did the first thing to check, so from that, change the oil, only take 3.5 qts with filter, so double check again. If it's running as you say, I'd just keep a close eye on this. I like the compression test, but doubt it's coolant, but one never knows.

Thanks Oz will do a compression test when back together and hopefully not rings as I don't want to spend the money if it's rings .
Lint the oil still looked good and slippery to touch( yeah sounds weird I dipped fingers in and compared it to fresh oil) but definitely thinner .

After the oil change save the old oil in a sealed container for a week or so and see if any separation occurred. Also try dropping a match on the surface to see if it will burn.

Thanks already changed oil I did put some in a glass jar and some fresh oil also in a jar beside it to compare that's what convinced me it's thinner I may still have it buried amongst the mess on the bench. Didn't occur to me to try and light it up, good idea. Will it seperate ? . I briefly thought about getting it tested but like I said I don't want to spend dead money if turns out to be rings and turns into a money pit. So far it's cost $100 to clean injectors. I did find a good compression tester at repco with extension and the thread to fit a bike that's another $100.

There is only 2 things it can be. Either petrol or coolant.

    Easiest test is for coolant.
Put a hydrocarbon tester into the radiator cap neck. This will tell you if hydrocarbons are getting mixed with the coolant - head gasket. Then compression test the cylinders.

If the oil smells of fuel then it probably is leaking fuel into a cylinder. What do your plugs look like? Pics please

That's good basic science right there. If it separates you will have water in there (at the bottom of the oil). If it burns, you have fuel in there. Don't forget a blank test (fresh oil) as oil will definitely burn, but I think it is unlikely to have a flammable vapour layer as you would get with fuel contamination.

Checked oil from the last change no seperation no water. Jar of oil has been sitting with lid on it for probably 4 weeks or more so might see if it'll light up.

Does "wet" mean that you added some motor oil to the cylinder?

If so, it looks like you do have a ring sealing problem.

    Bummer!

10 Psi seems extremely low for a bike that runs fine and doesn't smoke. What was your mileage? Strange that its only the one cylinder . Can't tell but is that plug fouled or different looking than the rest?

Yeah thought maybe I hadn't attached compression test hose properly so I removed reattached and repeated 3 times all around 10psi. Was hoping ring was just stuck (is that possible) . 45000 klm on bike. Plug looks same as others

Do leak down test to see where its leaking. Oil can be blocking leak from anywhere. Could always be head gasket to oil passage, it's not necessarily the rings.
