So, in my quest to bulletproof the humble 500 I've installed an oil cooler and sandwich adapter. I blocked off the original top end oil port with a short banjo and washer but I'm confused on where I'll need to plumb the top end oil lines.
My intentions are to feed filtered, cool oil mainly to the heads.
So I guess my question is where does the oil flow after its forced through the filter back into the engine?
Do I need to tap into the galley?
I know how you guys love pics so I posted some progress shots. Its real cozy building this thing in my barracks room up here in Alaska. Haha
    Thanks for any advice!

    Great photos!

Yeah, you do have a tight work area.

If you can access a service manual, it may have a diagram of the oil flow to help answer your question.

In other words, I don't know.

The only link for a vf500 FSM I saw in the stickies didn't work. I can't for the life of me find the PDF download. I had it on my old phone which is long gone unfortunately. I'll have to keep looking unless someone knows right where it is and could point me in the right direction. ;)

I have a similar setup on my VF750, the cooler was made by Lockhart with the same kind of adapter the goes between the engine and the filter, EXCEPT mine only has the cooling connections. Yours appears to have a separate input for the oil pump! Did the stock oil filter have a separate connection to the pump or did it rely on the oil coming from the engine directly, passing through the filter then returning to the engine, like most engines?? I can send you a diagram for a 750 if that will help.

What Base are you on in Alaska?

Ft. Rich for 2 looking years.
Done some research and have decided to tap the main oil gallery. If HRC did it I guess I'll do it that way too. It's filtered, high pressure and cooled oil to the heads. I've attached a digram I made to help make sense of the setup I'm running. Feel free to let me know if it doesn't look correct!
    Thanks

Sensible move using an oil cooler. I have no proof but the fact these engines run very hot is one possible reason for the valves dropping. I do everything to the stock setup to ensure I don't push the temps up.
