I have a ' 14 and was wanting to get a carbon fiber chain guard. I have not been able to locate one. So I was going to try water transfer decal. Has anyone done this? I was wondering how it would look and hold up to everyday riding.

Water transfer type graphics are called "decalcomania".

I'm thinking this could be done if one were careful about bubbles and doing some prep with fine sandpaper. The problem might be if any of the rattlecan chain cleaning products got on the decal or even one of the popular chain lube products.

    Try Google: "faux carbon fibre."

Did a small search and only came up with 2013 CF guards . Are they the same as 14?

Yes. I saw the 02-13 as well. It must be different enough to not fit.
There is a local guy that does it. He said it would be about $50 soi figured I'd give it a shot. He does the water dipping method. If it works on wheels, I'm assuming the chain guard will hold up too.
Just didn't know if anyone else has ever had parts done

I've seen raw military helmets get the water dip graphic treatment with success, and they have a similar, slightly rough texture. Based on that, I would think it would work fine on the chain guard. I also watched a video of 'water printing' of all different kinds of objects, and every one came out pretty impressive looking.

Plus, the guy that does it will be able to tell you in an instant if it will or will not work, once he has the part in his hand.

Do we have to ask what the objects were or can we see the video too? I bet all those dudes who got headshot in Nam wishes they would have had some of that paint on their steel pots.

I have an uncle who has a WWII German helmet with a hole innit. Probably a faux hole.

The question would be not so much does the application work on things but will it last on a chainguard that is subjected to various lubricants and cleaners that contain mixes of solvents.

When I get a coule days I'm not going to ride I'll get done to see how it holds up. I'll post some pics when I get it installed.
