Awful news - hope he makes it. Reminds me of what happened to Michael Schumacher who also ended up in a medically induced coma from brain injuries suffered during recreational activity. Hopefully Nicky will survive and come out of it better than Schumacher did (paralyzed and unable to speak). Crazy to think what these guys did on the track only to get severely fucked up skiing or riding their bicycles. Prayers for survival and full recovery.

He is to weak from blood loss to go into surgery. The leg break was open and bleed out a lot. Pelvis fractured too. That stuff is fixable but the brain is another story.

This is exactly why I've just about quit riding my bicycles. It's great exercise but more dangerous than riding a VFR, IMO.

Really hate to hear that about Nicky.

After looking at the pics of the damage to the car's windshield and roof I dont hold out much hope here. I assume he was wearing one of those little bicycle helmets? I don't think that kind of helmet is designed to protect the head from the forces it would have taken to smash the windshield and dent the roof like that. I hope I'm wrong.

The last time I rode my Trek, l was forced off the road twice. That was a long time ago. Haven't ridden since.

I have an old Nordic Trac in the basement. Used it so much, I rebuilt it. I was on it this morning for 24hard minutes. Not as fun as bicycling, but a 1000X safer.

So tragic. He had a brilliant racing career managing risk and winning in more ways than I can count.
Then he gets hit while riding a bicycle.
    Wow.

Wishing him the best for a recovery. From hearing about his injuries I doubt if he will make a full recovery to the level he was at before.

Just found this on my break
Can copy link but after the video it shows some stripper WTH
So Google Nicky Hayden update and you'll see it appears after hitting him what looks like at speed, he was thrown and bike was dragged quite a ways.
