pretty much the same as oakley burns. except i used the vfr subframe versus the flat bar he used. i did use the thicker flat bar and an 18mm wrench to make the eyelets.

    1) cut the upper vfr subframe right before rear tank mount. (in retrospect shoulda been AFTER rear tank mount.) put the made eyelets into the tube of the upper vfr rail and bolted it so i could have it welded later. and then mate it to upper cbr subframe and vfr rails. put the tank on and leveled the top of tank with the top of cbr rear fairing with pinion seat on. (i raised mines a little higher cause that how i liked it but it did effect how the cbr600rr side panels fit. hinsight is 20/20).

    2) then cut the lower angled rails of the vfr subframe and LOOSELY bolted them to frame right behind rearset how they go...and angled them to mate up with lower cbr subframe. made sure to insert the eyelets. so i could get the right angle and chopped them down until i got the right length and bolted everything up.

    3) then used 3/4 inch sqaure tubing to make crossmember...and tack welded them.

then took to pro welder and had them welded up

spray painted and then had to figure out a new home for the various parts. i dont have any pics of the process but i can definitely walk you thru the steps best as possible...also might work a lot easier if u have a welder

Glad this thread has provided some joy for others. I did this to start with coz i didn't like the rear end of the '88 - too boxy for my liking.

Underseat exhaust pics will follow soon. I have been meaning to post them but my life recently (isn't anybodies?) has been mental.

    Will update soon

Just a quick snapshot of the bike on New Years Day. Please excuse the puncture - country roads are NOT cool

I have decided against the CBR f2 swap, mostly as i had just refurbed the VFR ones and i had no issues with them. I did drop the bike a 1/2" on the front which has made my riding position and handling in the corners better.

The fuel pump. The VFR pump i had died. I know that the pump and the R/R are the two most 'unreliable' items on the bike so i got a 12V inline fuel pump from a RaceTech Landrover (£12 on Ebay), it's water proof and has no moving parts inside it to corrode or be shaken about. It seems to operate in a 'pulsing' action - no idea what that means, but it's been in the bike for 18mths now and it has always started first time and i have no fuelling issues during the whole of the rev range.

    See pics for more:

    Hello Everyone,

Oakley, your bike looks as stunning as oakley sun-glases :D
I've always thought VFRs with slimmer tail would make it look so so better. And the results are evident.

I am so tempted to do similar conversion on my 1998Fi VFR800. The tails on this viffers are very bulky, but a slim version like cbr would make it look real head turner. Any idea if anyone has done something like this already ?? I've search and not found anything so far.

And now I'll keep an eye for your bike on roads of London, might have missed out it seems.

All the best and well done.
