trying to decide on exhaust
Such a tough decision. I'll admit, my main reason for doing the exhaust is sound. The performance gain is nice, but I want the sound. I did a poker run this weekend with an RC51 that had the Two Brothers exhaust on it... and now I really really want exhaust. That rc51 sounded awesomely growly and mean. I loved it. I've looked at exhaust for my VFR, and found sound clips/videos. The problem is... even sound clips of the same exhaust sound different, so it's hard to decide.
Is there anyone in the Tacoma/Seattle area with aftermarket on their 6th gen that would let me take a listen? :) I'm open to any exhaust I like the sound of, so far Two Brothers, Leo Vince, and Staintunes are the contenders. |

KC-10 FE had a great post comparing several brands he's tried.
I bought a Staintune to replace my Vance & Hines on his recommendation and am very happy with it. Of course you know your VFR will never sound like an RC51.. |

Yeah they sound cool. Like a Ducati.
VFR's sound cool too though, but different. Maybe go with Micron if you want a powerful sound. KC-10 FE I believe says on a VFR they sound like Flowmasters on a small block. I spent quite a bit of time deciding what pipe to get for my 5th gen. I like the Staintune. I had a Vance & Hines and thought it sounded kinda wimpy. |

The Staintune comes with a removable restrictor.
With it in, to me it sounded a little congested. But without a little obnoxious. Not too bad, but a bit too loud. So I made a new restrictor that is halfway between the id of the restrictor and the end of the outlet without. I am completely satisfied now. And the workmanship of the Staintune is 2nd to none. |

I had a Two Bros on my SV and while it wasn't as nicely built as Staintune,

I ended up following the procedure described by borg in another thread, it sounds amazing :) And it only took 8 cutting discs, yay!

I have the same Scorpions mentioned above. I saw those in the classifieds also. They are great pipes. Sound is awesome. I don't know what the others are like but its just a straight shot down the pipe. I was really happy. I have compared them side by side to the Staytunes and we both thought the Scopions sound better. A bit deeper of a note. My cat is gutted so that could make a difference also. The other was not.

I had a Two Brothers high mount on my 98 VFR and it sounded great at low and high revs. I have a Yosimura on my 99. A bit different. Not as much sound when criusing but cracks nicely when accelerating.

I actually ended up coring the end of the stock exhaust. So far, I'm super happy with it. Has a great sound, and only cost me $15 in Dremel cut-off discs!
Once I save the money, I'll do Motad headers and PCIII with a map. |

i agree with mike, if u havn't got one already get a dremel and follow step by step instructions in other posts found on here. I have done the mod and love the sound, you won't regret it and its relatively inexpensive compared to fully replacing exhaust

I've got the scorpions. throaty, but still pretty quiet. Haven't had them on too long. Some midrange power gain, but not a whole lot else. Got them for $750 from local shop. Had a buddy put them on and said it was harder getting the factory pipes off over putting the new ones on.
Still can't hear it running over the wife's Spyder with the hindle pipe. Grrrrrr....

Leo Vince all the way. I changed my exhaust with just the tools that came with the bike. Now the best part of my work day is when i ride through the parking garage. I rode for a couple of days without an exhaust...It sound's mean!

I love the Staintunes. Amazingly built and they sound fantastic. The license plate was trimmed down a bit so it does not touch the cans.

Staintunes are nice but i really dislike the bling bling exhausts, i prefer matte finishes or carbon fiber. I also didnt like the exhaust that didn't have that heat shield on the up-pipe, i find my self with my heels near it and i know it will be hot as hell with my foot resting near that up-pipe without a heat shield.

I think that might look wierd based on the big gaping hole where the stock exhaust used to sit.

I've got the LVs with the endcaps not the spoutes - love 'em! I would love to see these mid-size restrictors as well :)
