How to lower your 6th gen. (Triangle Flip)

Do you know where the triangles are? If you do and have a few tools you can do the back in less than an hour. A torque wrench is highly recommended. You will need this tool over and over for this bike.

Put the bike on the center stand.
Remove rear tire.
Put a jack under the swingarm brake assy.

I bundled up a rag between the jack and brake.
There is very little weight. You just don't want it to drop down and you can jack it up to the new height easily.

Remove the three bolts holding the triangle.

Rotate the triangles as shown in the picture. The stock position is the one on the left with the arrows pointing forward. You want both of them pointing towards the rear and up like the one on the right.

Reassemble the triangles and torque the bolts to the correct specs! You should need to jack up the swingarm about 3/4 inch (20mm) to line up the holes correctly.

Put the tire back on and torque those too.

I lowered the front 10mm and all was great.

Will post the procedure for the front when I have time.

All Done!!

20 mm rear drop. That's why you have to raise the swingarm up 20 mm or so to realign it.

Thanks also, I have the same bike and have been wondering how to do this for a while. Funny but the triangles look symmetrical, it's just not intuitive that this would lower the height. Is this a standard way to lower for the VFR, asking because some people buy link lowering kits.

Late question, but I have a 2002 I have been thinking about lowering like this. I'm only 5'5", and they just don't make these for ladies. Anyway, since you have had some riding time on it, can you tell me the pros and cons? Any change in cornering, stopping, starting, high speed cornering (is there any other kind??)

Would you do it over if you had the choice again?

I did it, and the only thing I regret is not lowering the front at the same time. If you do decide to do it get the forks dropped in tripple tree 15mm to match. If you drop just the back and not the front it wont turn into corners as quick.

I'm 5'7"and had trouble pushing the bike bacwards out of parking spots and balancing it while my girlfriend got on and of etc. Before the lowering I could just touch the ground with the ball of my feet. Now I'm almost flat footed. Gives you a lot more confidence because you no longer worry about dropping the bike.

The only cornering issues is that there is less ground clearance so the peg feelers hit the ground sooner. If you corner that hard and you're that concerend about it you can put shorter peg feelers in (of a CBR perhaps?) Just don't corner to hard if you have panniers on!

Notice the guy in the above picture has removed his peg feelers
