3rd gen front wheel/brake upgrade
Hello all. My VFR has been garaged in peices for the past 2 years I am thinking making a big effort to find someone with a heated garage and some space. However, I had a little project in mind. I got a CBR900RR front wheel with 320mm light weight rotors for cheap. I also got an RC51 front calipers and master cylinder. I have a machinist that lives local and who could make me custom brake mounts. I know NC30/35 guys have done similar things. I didn't know if anyone here had done a similar mod and had any advice or drawings. I'm not going to do anything soon, but I'm psyching myself up.
Thanks. Rich |

Opps, I think they are 310mm, not 320mm. I'm going over to brothers today so I'll check. Also I am quite sure they are EBC race lite rotors. They're not no names, I know that.

I know the cb900rr wheel bolts up but you will have to remove the wheel barrings from your stock wheel and put them into the cb wheel. you will also have to cut new spacers.
the cb rotors lined up perfectlty with the stock front end. imo you get such a big benefit from the wheel and rotor swap. id hold off on the calipers unless the upgrade doesnt give you the performance your looking for. |

Thank you for your reply. Is that a 16" wheel? I'm curious how you like it. What diameter is that rotor? The older 900's were 296mm, but I'm quite sure mine is a 310mm off of a '98. I already have the calipers and M/C. And I am sure I will to have to have a new bracket made either way.
What sizes are the new spacers I need? Any tips on getting the old bearing out? Thanks, Rich |
