) = But truth hurts But thats another old tired thread anyways .I never said anything about racing ???? Bench racing is about "sitting" with friends talking about riding areas & tracks as we've done on the forum , & "IS" why I said it would be better & more fun in person ![]() Didn't say canceled, I'm still going, but pointed out the major pusher of the event/meet up Bailed on the idea, he said his piece with me in a PM, & don't hold a grudge, & shit happens ! Besides, I added a "p.s." about Monterrey & said make it on a track weekend @ Laguna Seca & Then It would entice me to go, reason is I've got more miles in that area under my belt than most have in the entire M/C riding experiances & would be rather boring out side of the "Bench Racing" in person. enjoy your trip & I'll enjoy mine ![]()

Herding cats?
Man, you cat's is got me all mixed around. BOO on SLO, too hot and too close. Not far enough to clear my mind up. I needs to gets away, far away, and the 500+ miles up the east side of the Sierras to Reno/Tahoe was the right medicine. I was intending to go north from there. Maybe I ought to ask where the northerners were intending to gather and meet them there. SLO is just a long commute from the big city. If you go as far inland as the 101 its 100F in the shade. You got to hug the beach front to stay cool and then its in the 80's at best.
Monterey? about the same but for the ride along the shoreline. Pretty but not exhilerating. And like Paso Robles in the gap east of SLO, hot air blows down from the Salinas valley through the passes so you have to stick to the coast to stay cool. I was dreaming of jumping off one of those 8000 +ft passes. One of those passes that is closed in November and does not open till April or May. I mean opening the throttle to the limit in the thin cool air on a 30degree positive slope and flying over the saddle, and careen down into the tall timber, on the way to Le Chateau Drewl and Susanville. BUT I CAN DO SLO at the drop of a hat. I could even ride home to sleep. I could take the train and leave the cycle at home, have an excursion tour of the SP terminal, walk in the footsteps of Clark Gabel and Spencer Tracy, and step over to Chinatown or to Olivera St for a quick meal between trains. QUE ROMANTICO ES LOS ANGELES?? You cats get ready "cause here I come". Keep me informed of where the gathering is going to finally settle on. I have some work to do. Momma, can I take kitty? Meoww. |

Mt. Shasta?
I believe that was what I was hoping for when driving away from Tahoe/Susanville, north to see my brother in Arcata on my broad swing home to the "heat lands".

Not sure I'm going that way because of SLO/Monterey
Arcata/Eureka would be a great place to have the meet/get together. Its cool in the summer, the wind blows off the shore, the mountains are backed right up against the cities, a redwood forest preserve right in Downtown Arcata. Set the meet up for abalone season or better yet Salmon fishing (around now) season, could be a great meet. Roads east, back off the ocean, are beautiful and twisty, temperatures fine in summer, sunlight through the pines in the day. I think it might have worked out better than Tahoe. Problem is hotel accomodations. My bro has a tiny house on the marshland near the sand dunes and breakers. Probably next to where you used to live. Keep reminding me near meet time, I'll get a pic of your old place if I go up there before or after SLO. Lamps

Carmen started the whole LAMPS thing a few months ago. In Hi area of Europe the riders flash their headlamps at each other instead of waving. So by saying LAMPS he is "waving" at us.

I'm still a maybe, wherever it may be. I'll know Aug 4 if my riding season is over for the year.

My reservations are still intact at the Silver Legacy for August 23rd, 24th, and 25th. I'll drink everybody else's beer, smoke all of your cigars, and do my best not to have an attitude. Wait a minute; I don't get an attitude about this kind of stuff...
I probably was not going on a group ride anyway, as consecutive days of riding are getting too uncomfortable. Be that as it may, if anybody else shows up, I know where the good food lives, and I will buy a few rounds. |

Nah, nothing like that. I banged up my shoulder/elbow almost one year ago to the day and ended up having surgery. Was in a roll-over last week and hurt it all over again, same shoulder, same place, etc. Have a doc appt 8/4 that will tell me if I need surgery again.
Thanks for the heads-up Drewl, I'll check the thread. ride safe, Kevin

Well, since nobody else has responded, I have arranged for some other friends to meet me in Reno that weekend. Looks like they'll get all the free drinks and dinners...
