VFRW West Coast Meetup- August 21st-26th, Reno, NV

PUT UP OR SHUT UP TIME FOLKS! CAN ALL MEMBERS THAT SAID THEY WERE GOING GIVE A FINAL ROLL CALL? Ok, I will stop yelling now. Invites are dropping like flies it seems. We have had several cancellations, and I haven't heard from other responses from any other members that said they were going orignally, so I wanted to see who still was interested. Please respond back yes or no you still want to go ASAP. The less people that are going it seems, in turn sometimes causes others to drop plans as well. No worries if you cannot make it, we just want to know up front is all. If invities keep dropping, maybe we will look at a "possible" location change to centralize things....since all the northern folks are not coming now. I know that originally the long distance was an issue for many. I (derstuka) am not attending the Reno meetup. I will be doing a coastal ride (SLO and Monterey area) due to cancellations, and other restraints.

Thank ya kindly for your input!

UPDATE: Three hotel option recommended are (they are connected):

Hey guys.....just so everyone knows, here is the reservations that I know of so far.

Circus Circus Hotel/Casino:

Silver Legacy Hotel Casino:

LGN001 - August 22 & 23???
Hotel drewl is closed. Some of us are relocating to a new coastal ride to centralize since nothern folks are not coming. The meetup is NOT cancelled, I just will not be attending Reno. Drewl's place is closed as well. You all are more than welcome to continue this. I hope that you do. Sorry for the inconvenience. Anybody is well to join the few that are meeting up around SLO and/or Monterey. Those plans are being worked out currently.

Update:

Preliminary schedule:
Friday 8/22:cruise down to Reno-check in to repsective hotels
Sat 8/23-cruise down to Reno-check in to repsective hotels
Sun 8/24- Reno (possible ride around Tahoe)
Mon 8/25- Reno ?? (Some folks will be departing, others staying)
Tue 8/26-ride out. C YA.

Sun and Mon have not been scheduled yet because there are amny possibilities for fun and more riding. Those of you that know the area can add input. Some early ideas are to visit Historic Virginia City(a few miles south of Reno) and a ride up to Lake Tahoe( less than an hour from Reno-best left for Monday to avoid weekend traffic).

List of folks coming so far and where they are coming from (Note some of these folks will be meeting directly in Reno)

2. Dudealicious (Los Angeles, CA)
8. Pvancle (SF bay area, CA)
9. LGN001 (Russian River, CA)
10. PAR518 (Roseville, CA)

12. luckyscrewz (Chico, CA)
13. justin_jag (Lake Tahoe, CA)

and the maybe crowd...

I missed my annual ride with the buds last weekend because I totaled my 98 two days before the ride, but I will be getting another VFR soon and would love to cruise up there to get a nice ride in this summer. I'll see if Cruzinaz wants to go too. I'll see him tomorrow night. Let you know. It would be better if it were in July because my school year begins the first week of August. Brian

I'm on vacation the first week of August but pretty free otherwise, I'd be very interested in this. I'd also be happy to help out with any logistics since I only live 60 miles away from Tahoe.

I'm a definite maybe. The ride there is no prob for me, but I have the trip up to WA that I have to think about. I missed making it all the way up last year so I don't want to miss it this year. I have my vacation blocked out sometime in Aug and the plans to go to Italy got canxd so I'll have to check with the wife and see if she wants to try and do this if it happens.

EDIT: checked out plans with wife and I am available from July 25th - Aug 4th... She is working the mid state fair for some extra cash so I can ride solo and spend the extra cash on strippers and booze! yeehaw! Now, you guys figure out when you want to do what. I meet whereever as long as I get home by the 4th.

Hmm, definitely something to think about. have a couple ride ideas in mind that I'd like to do this year, then there's Reg meet and greet. Maybe We can talk Drew into hosting this at his place?

Sooooooo, I was thinking I would see how much interest there would be for a larger west coast gathering for the time-being. SilverSurfer800 came up with a nice central location of Lake Tahoe. That is relatively about half way for most Oregon/WA, and SoCal folks. I think it would be very doable for NV/Utah/Idaho & maybe even eager Northern Arizona, and even gungho crazy canucks to our north. Anyone is welcome of course. We could work out the issue of rooms/lodging later, but if enough show, we could probably get a better rate, or even look at a house rental, or camping as well....just some ideas. Lots of nice roads around there to ride, and pretty scenery to take in!

So, say we planned this VFRWorld sometime in August-ish (or around summer time) of this year at Lake Tahoe....how many would be interested??? Don't be shy speak up!

UPDATE: It is sounding (so far) like the earlier in August the better. What about the first weekend of August? August 1st-3rd or something.
Cant do it I ,will be on the Harley headed back from a week long trip in Reno / Lake Tahoe. Then Sport Bike North west in Stevenson WA 21st -24th. Any other time will work though.

Count me in. I've camped at Sugar Pine Point State Park. The state park has access to the lake and camping is a little further away. Here are some links:

Tori, Tori, Tori....I just don't know how to respond to that! Besides Drewl & SS8 in San Fran, you are closer than most.

Miles to Lake Tahoe

Atascadero - 389 miles (add 20 for SLO)
San Diego - 535 miles
Portland - 593 miles
Seattle - 766 miles
San Francisco - 200 miles
Salt Lake City - 550

These kinda meets are a WHOPPER to plan, as it is hard to find a happy medium for distance, and to coincide with people's plans.

Nepix,

I don't know how long we would stay, I was thinking at least 2 nights, but it is up to everybody. I would figure that after the long ride in, most are gonna want to chill for the rest of that day, and then have a full day or two of riding, gambling, BBQing, BSing, or something.

Reg,

When is the official date of your BBQ? I wasn't trying to knock yours off the map, just wasn't sure when it was, and I was trying to think of a more central location for a VFRW meet so more folks could make it.

HEY EVERYONE

I am making a calendar so we can actually see when people are not available (makes it much easier to keep track of). So if you have actual dates that you can't go, please post up asap.

ALSO

Does anybody have any objection to staying in Reno? There will be more/better/cheaper lodging, and we can still ride down to Lake Tahoe one day.

I'm there for Tahoe! I actually have the first Friday in August off already so the first weekend is perfect (1st thru 3rd)! :DANCE7: I can also help with the planning as well. Don't forget the North Shore has plenty of places to stay and Stateline, NV (Casino's) are only a few minutes away. Tahoe is the best central location for staying. We should be able to find a house to rent for the 3 day weekend. If we can nail down the dates I have a few places to try for rooms. Let's get this planned! :DANCE7::DANCE7::DANCE7:

I'm out of pocket from 8/9-17. So, 8/1-3 works for me.

For what it is worth, the Silver Legacy in Reno has covered motorcycle parking right outside the lobby. Their rooms are good, and the prices are very reasonable especially during the week. Tahoe is within an hour via the Mt. Rose route, although tourists can make it a slow ride.

I figured on staying at the Legacy regardless.

RVFR mentioned my place...HMMMMM.
I have bed space for 4, couch space for 2 more, floor space for maybe 6 more comfortably... covered parking for 6-8 bikes 3 full bathrooms--all at my house. several motels in town. Many types of restaurants to choose from. A grill, a big fridge, and a cooler.
Oh yeah, some of the sweetest roads in NORCAL withint a few minutes of my front door.
Reno is 1 hour down the road, Tahoe 2.

Something to think about...
