September ?? Ride to Tail of the Dragon

Hey all,

Since the last ride I organized ( August 16th Trip to Cherohala Skyway ) I've realized that some people don't have a lot of free weekends. I guess that's what I get for being a single guy.

Anyway, to accomodate anyone who wants to join in a group ride, I'd like to hear if anyone has a free weekend or two for the month of September to the tail of the dragon. That way we can sort of vote when to meet up for a ride based on which weekend that most of us are free on.

I'll start... every september weekend I'm free Yeah I know the single life is great!

So once we get enough votes tallied we can go from there deciding where/when to meet!

I'm also single but I suffer from a plague known as "responsibilities". they stink.

here's my schedule:

Labor day- out of town

Sunday's are good on the 7,21st,28th

No college football on Sat. the 27th so that works also.

I'm definitely game, though.

I just heard from a fellow georgian here, nunyadamnbiz saying he's free for sundays. So far it's looking like the ride will be on a sunday not a saturday.

Hey Joey,
Since college football season is here, count me in for most Sundays! Saturdays I will be parked on the couch yelling at the TV screen!
Most Sundays I'll be free, so let's keep an eye on the weather and pick a day.
I'll probably have a couple of others riding with us as well, although not VFR-guys!
Gary

Joey,
I was jealous of your last ride. Sundays are best for me. I am possibly free on 9/14 and 9/28. Hopefully one of these dates are dates other people will be able to go. The personal messages are very helpful for updates.
Thanks for being an organizer.
Brian

No problem Brian, it's fun to go on group rides! So far it's looking like Sept 28th is the date. Let's see if more people want to go...

Clear out the whole day, man, it's at least a 3 hour ride one-way to the dragon but don't worry, it'll be fun going there because some of the route covers GA-60 and that's quite a fun road!

Just make sure not to yell too loud so you won't wear yourself out for the next day ride ha ha! Yeah, we'll have to check the weather and I might be bringing some non-VFR buddies as well.

I'm a huge UGA fan and I like to spend my Saturdays eating BBQ and drinking ice cold beer while watching the DAWGS. I'm usually in no shape to be on a motorcycle during college game days. In other words....Sundays work best for me!

Regards,
Rollin

Looks like the Dawgs will be having a good season this fall.
I've got to say "War Eagle" though! :~)
Hope to see you on some of our local mountain rides on Sundays this fall.

Gary, you're my type of guy. I was at Auburn for 8 years. Went to undergrad and vet school. War Eagle! We'll see what this new offensive coordinator can do.

Joey,
If possible the sooner we can solidify a date then the easier it is for some to go ahead and make plans. I think 9/28 looks good to me. What do ya'll (southern talk) think?

I'll wait until friday for more replies and if no one else objects to the Sept 28th date we'll make it solid and establish a meeting place. Brian, since you're up in NC, would you have any recommendations for a good meeting spot like at a BBQ dive or a gas station? Preferably we would like to meet to the south of the dragon since we got Georgia folks riding up here.

Joey,
I'll look into it. Right now I don't know have a recommendation but I will do some research and get back to you ASAP. Or, if you like I can bring some hummus and peta bread. Just kidding.

All right, I'm officially declaring September 28th as the tentative meet-up date for the tail of the dragon ride. All we need to make official now is the meet-up time and where to meet with Brian and the Georgia riders.

I noticed that all of the Georgia riders are in the atlanta metro area so we could meet up on the way to the dragon, say off Exit 13 on GA 400 and go from there to meet with Brian somewhere near the dragon preferably at a BBQ spot.

Brian, what do you think of meeting us at Sweetwater BBQ in Robbinsville, NC? I have a link here: VisitNC.com | Sweetwater BBQ – Robbinsville, NC It's about 12 miles from the dragon.

Sweetwater would be fine. The hours of operation do not include Sunday based on the link you sent. I called their number and spoke with "Lora" and she said they were open on Sundays. I asked her if the BBQ was any good and she asked me if I was "crazy". So according to Lora the BBQ is good/great. She may be a little biased but she didn't hesitate. How long do you think it would take to get there from the GA meeting spot? Maybe we could meet for lunch and then ride? I'm open.
