North Georgia Ride Sept. 14 - All are welcome!

Hey guys,

Would anyone be up for a little group ride in the north georgia area? Here's the google directions: LINK: Google Directions

It would be a half-day trip covering some really fun curves up in the mountains and then having some lunch in Helen. If you haven't been to Helen it's your lucky day because it's kinda like Disney World with a german theme. Then after that we would take a little scenic route on some bridges and over the buford dam.

I'm thinking we could meet up around 9 am off Exit 13 on GA 400. If you're up for a ride please let me know in this thread!

This sounds like fun. I should be able to make it. I assume that we should wear our Lederhosen since we will be passing through Helen ??

Rollin

It's on GA 400 North. You can use the google map link in the 1st post to see where exactly it is.

I think a good place to meet will be Normans Landing restaraunt. It is just East of GA 400 once you get off on exit 13. For those who are directionally challenged you would turn right off the exit if you are coming North on 400 or turn left off the exit if you are coming South on 400. If I remember correctly, there is a Chevron gas station in the adjoining parking lot so that we can fuel up before we leave.

Now, can anyone tell me what color Lederhosen would look good with my Anniversary Edition Viffer??

(365 Peachtree Pkwy)

Rollin

Ah, yes Norman's Landing it is!!! Sorry I forgot to mention where exactly to meet up. As Rollin said all you got to do is make a right and you'll see a pretty big sign for Norman's Landing on the left side of the road. We can just meet up in the parking lot and then move to a gas station close by to fuel up.

And I think there are some openings for a german "What not to wear" that will give some great tips on lederhosen ha ha!

I heard from a member here, nunyadamnbiz, and he's down for a ride so it's looking like we'll have a total of 4 guys and maybe one other (buddy of mine that has a Suzuki SV1000). Looking forward to it!

Yeah one of my other friends just got a new 08 VFR, He's still learning on it (poor bike), but I'll see if he's down. Yeah Normans Landing @ 9am. Joey this time lets try eating at that place thats under the bridge, I haven't tried there yet. Anyways looking forward to it. There is that covered bridge on the way up to Brasstown Bald. I believe you take a right about halfway from Helen to Brasstown. Can't wait. I also have that best N. GA rides book we can all look through to see if there is anywhere anyone wants to go in particular. Later

Would it be ok to invite a few friends from VFRD boards or do you want to limit the number of riders for this trip?

Rollin

I want to go on some future rides in North Georgia. I recently moved to Acworth from Grand Rapids, MI. For the past 10 years have been taking trips to Deal's Gap area with friends and ridden around Suches, GA, but since I moved here 6 weeks ago, need to get familiar with North Georgia. 9-14-2008 is out for me because I'm headed to Indy for the MotoGP.

Later,
John

Hey guys - I think I'll join you! Just got the bike in July, after selling my last VFR 700 in 1990 (raising kids!). I've got NO fancy gear yet, so blue jeans it is. I'm a 42-year-old married guy from Lawrenceville. This will be my first time to ride with any other VFR guys, so I'm looking forward to meeting you! I'll be a good follower - lead the way!
Thanks,
Mike

Go to this link: http://vfrworld.com/forums/profile.php?do=editavatar

I know it's confusing but the Avatar is what you want to set for the picture in the forums. The profile picture is what you see when you see your profile page.

Anyway, glad to have another fellow VFR signing up. I'll be sending out a confirmation PM to everyone who signed up monday. See you then!

Joey

What is the plan if there is rain? I've heard a few mixed forecasts that suggest that we may have rain over the weekend. I personally prefer not to ride in the rain especially on my stock Dunloop tire that already has 6,000 miles on it.

Regards,
Rollin

Yeah I'm concerned about the rain as well. According to weather.com there's a 30% chance of rain for sunday. I'll see what the skies look like saturday morning and what the weather forecast is. If it's looking like no rain or a mild drizzle the ride's on but if it looks like there's going to be some heavy rain and/or thunder the ride's off.

I'll send you guys a PM and update this thread early saturday afternoon if the ride's off or on.

BTW, aren't you getting new tires anyway?

I'm still looking for a good deal on tires and can't decide between Michellin Pilot Road 2, Avon Storm ST, or Conti RA's. I'm a little strapped for cash right now and won't be able to get them for another week or two.

Regards,
Rollin

Sunday is looking better now! Weather.com is now at 20% chance of rain with a cloudy forecast. Plus the skies are clearing up but I'll still confirm saturday morning to see how things are then.
